Around 10 years ago I did some minor and very amateur touch up work on my original BW Waspinator to get him more show accurate.
All these years later, they come out with a new "Generations Waspinator" as a modern version of the figure. Now I know the Classics/Universe/henkei/Generations beast figures are very hit and miss, like the good Dinobot and the horrific Cheetor figures, but how does the new Waspy stack up?

Well in my opinion, the new wasp is nowhere near being as improved as you'd expect for how long ago it was when the original was made. Although I do like the bot mode better, the colors are a bit bright and he has more of a cheap feel. Wasp mode though, is where the new figure really falls short. Where the dangly long rear legs on the old one made him sort of passable as a yellow jacket, this new one just looks like a little bee. I like the curved body on the new one, but the badly visible arms and feet on the sides and bottom of the bug really kills this mode for me. To go with that issue, his wings do not pose much at all. There is a button gimmick to make the wings flap laughably poorly, but they are pretty much stuck back and the old wings-up look in bot mode is a no-go here.

Overall, decent figure, but far from great.

Afterthoughts a few days later- I actually like this figure a little more than the original overall. I saw the bug mode on the couch from a distance and for a second it looked a lot like a big ass bee. My daughter had left it there. Also if you position all wasp legs back you can get a nice wasp-like leg dangle flying pose for using his dumb gimmick and flying him around after the kids!
