Description
For the deviantART category "Visual Suggestions" I offer this: the ability to vote on more than one answer in a poll. So you could (for instance) ask: "What type of art do you do?" and people wouldn't be forced to pigeonhole themselves if they did graphics design and photography, for example.Just my .02 cents.

Is there any possibility to achieve this presently at dA? Doesn't have to make use of regular polls, can also be a CSS-based script that could be inserted into a journal entry, preferably with thumbnails corresponding to each alternative...
Yeah, that's specific. Any idea of where to go hunting for something like that?!

Ok, too bad. Thanks anyways!

Yes! I go nuts with polls because the suggestions help motivate me to make more art, but a number of people keep telling me they wish they could choose more than one option. If I could have any one improvement to DA, it would be this.

Better yet, you can have an option to choose how many answers you can select! (Ex. Up to 3, Only 2..) This is a good idea though. I often find myself having to choose the most important of the answers.

In Yahoo! Groups, each poll is either a "choose one" or a "choose multiple", so both types are accommodated. Except, when you do a multiple-type-poll, they do the percentages out of total boxes checked, rather than out of the number of people who responded. If dA does multi-polls, they need to calculate percentages using number of responders as the divisor. Then you can look at the results and immediately see that X percent of responders checked the Y box.

Yeah, I use the Yahoo Groups polls a lot (on a group where I am a moderator) and that's what got me to thinking about dA polls. I wish they worked similarly.

In addition, when creating a poll, allow the poll-creator to decide if they want to allow one answer, or multiple.

Its not bad, rather then using the radio buttons that da currently supports, they should enable the check boxes as well.

I love this idea
But Id like to also see it when a person is making a poll they are in control, they have the option of adding how many options a person can vote for.
eg.
"One vote per poll per person"
"two votes per person per poll"
"unlimited votes per poll allowed"

Really depends on the type of poll your putting up

I was hoping it would allow for a choice, like on most sites with polls (i/e: LiveJournal.)

I foresee this becoming a problem as people randomly select additional answers, check every box, etc. The internet is full of monkeys, and forcing people to choose just one answer actually keeps things more accurate in my opinion than allowing quantum answers.

I disagree. See also the question "What type of photographer are you?"
You could answer "Fine Art Nudes" or "Conceptual" or "Experimental" and all would be correct. If you picked just one the poll would NOT be accurate, as you (and others) would be vastly under-reported in certain genres.
For instance, if I wanted to know how many people shot blacklight, and how many shot projections, and how many shot silks, I would have to either make three separate polls and ask "Do you shoot ____?" Or just make one poll and get all the data I need.

I think you overestimate the average deviant. See also, how many people respond "I'm just here to steal your art" on either of our polls.

Yes, but with multiple boxes they could check the "funny" answer as well as the more accurate one.

I agree with UN, OFten it is more important to see more than just the simple answer, and while some people might just click away randomly, I thing the benifits would outweigh the obvious chances for abuse. Do you think the powers that be could easily implement something like this as Yahoo!Polls as?

I hope so. It's VERY basic coding.
