XD took practise but I'll share a secret
If you want a background with colours that go together, always either use a trust-worthy palette or a photo for colour ref. It may be tedious finding that one selection of colours but the background will thank you for it when your done.
And if your going realistic, ALWAYS REFERENCE TO A PHOTO FOR TEXTURES THAT U NEED unless your a god-sent. My mountains from memory are not even half as good as these XD. I looks up rock textures when i draw rocks and cliff/mountain textures when I draw mountains, THEY ARE DIFFERENT.
That's all I really have to say XD I will now crawl back into the hole which I came from XD

yeah! XD unlike the detailed foregrounds that people do, background can, and I prefer them this way, more painty and that style is easily done with a mouse.
And another point came to mind, If your going for a painty style background then do minimum blending/blurring of colours. Instead, find the colours in between and use thoose
