I listen to a lot of fan-made pony songs, and this one made me think of Drobot. His story in my universe is slightly different from his skylanders story. Essentially, as a young dragon, he lived in a remote village with other dragons, mostly of the Electricity or Fire element. His name at the time was Drono. They never really communicated much with the dragon cities, as they preferred their quiet, sheltered lives in the folds of nature. However, their village leaders received word from the nearest dragon city that the ape armies were growing stronger once more, and the dragon kings and queens had decided to send out dragons to protect the lands, fearing a war was on the rise. Dragon soldiers were requested by the village leaders. When Drono first saw them, wearing their shining armor, he thought they were machines. His mother told him they were just dragons wearing fancy, protective metal. This sparked Drono's inspiration to be the first dragon to mix magic with war. He thought that if he could make dragon armor that had magical properties, it would help dragons to win more battles and save more lives.
He spent his days hanging around the soldiers, particularly oneteenage male named Ignitus. Ignitus and Drono became close. Ignitus revealed to Drono that he was training to be a Guardian, and in response Drono explained his plans to create magical armor. Ignitus encouraged Drono, thinking it was an amazing idea. Drono, as he grew older, started experimenting. He would use rejected armor from the blacksmith's to use in his experiments. He started by trying to fuse crystals to metal. He then tried to mix them together, so that they would be one material (this created the types of armors that Spyro and Cynder later wore in DotD). He created # specific types: Gold-and-Green to regenerate a dragon's elemental magic, Bronze and Black both unlocked a dragon's strongest magical capabilities (Bronze typically worked best with Light elements and the Black with Dark elements), Iron made a dragon stronger, Silver made a dragon's physical attacks bear elemental damage, Silver-Iron had the effects of both Silver and Iron, Gold regenerated a dragon's health, Purple strengthened a dragon's fury attack, and others that he hid away. He was a teenager by the time he finished with these experiments. Now he wanted armor that had other powers that didn't derive from gems... but he was facing a problem. The ape armies were starting to grow in strength, and the dragon cities wanted all dragons to relocate to their nearest city. Drono's family wanted to go to the East Sea city, which wasn't the closest but was the farthest from any "problem" areas. But Drono had his own place in mind... Warfang City had some of the best examples of the new technology, from catapults that had regenerative ammo to element-activated doors, even cable-less elevators. He bid his farewells with his family, and made his journey to the city. He was halfway there when a battle broke out between armies below him. He fled for cover, and found himself at a cave entrance. He hid inside, and while hiding realized how vast the cave was (though that required several minutes' walk down a long passage). He decided to make this place his workplace, and as soon as the sounds of battle stopped, he continued on his way to the city. There he gathered all the metal and other appliances he may require, and returned to his cave. He spent many years down there, trying to perfect a battle-ready armor. He made a set that had jet engines to propel a dragon's flight, or even let dragons who can't fly get to know the experience. He made armor that had retractable extensions on the claws and tail. He made an armor set that could make a dragon invisible. He made a set that allowed its wearer to be unaffected by elements (based on the armor's colour; golden-yellow for Electricity, orange for Fire, dark plum for Shadow, brilliant green for Poison, etc). But soon, he wanted more... he wanted a suit that was connected to its wearer, so that the dragon could control it mentally rather than with magic or physical controls. It took years, by this point Ignitus was an older dragon and a Guardian, leading armies into battle to try and reclaim the islands that the ape armies had overrun. Finally, he had done it. The armor covered his head, and covered his back, with an extension to his tail-tip. He put the armor on, and for the first several months he felt more alive and unstoppable than ever before. The extension atop the helmet allowed him to send out many different sort of waves and pulses, ranging from loud waves of deafening sound to magnetic pulses that confused dragons and certain weaponry. He was always unaffected. He even went out against ape armies on occasion, easily defeating them. But then... something changed. He began to become crazed, wanting to improve his invention. He cut off his wings completely at the shoulder, replacing them with mechanical wings that fused to his body, and even had their own special, regenerative membrane. He made armor to cover his forelegs, cutting off his thumbs in the process to allow the metal to fit. He then added a new piece of technology to the extension on the top of his helmet. This new addition allowed him to shoot his element, electricity, from his eyes, rather than his mouth. He now truly believed he was a perfect dragon. He was no longer Drono. He was Drobot.
By this point, Cynder was in power and in control of the armies. She came to Drobot one day, and confronted him. Since she was a dragon, Drobot didn't attack. Cynder wanted to strike a deal with Drobot. She informed him that the Dark Master, upon his return, would destroy Drobot and steal everything he had created. To this, Drobot hissed and claimed it would be a blasphemy against the New Order. Cynder then told him her plan. If he agreed to work for her, he would be spared, and his creations wouldn't be stolen and destroyed, but would be used. Ecstatic to start his New Order of living things, he agreed. He worked on armor for the apes. His first creations were used to make apes invincible to attack, but there were so few he could make that they were made specifically for the larger apes (as seen in tEN when the big apes don't react to physical attacks). He began to work on armor for Cynder herself, though he had no idea that by now Cynder had been defeated. All he had now was a list of ideas he had shown to Cynder, and she had agreed to. So he made her armor, which made her invincible to elemental and physical attacks, while also strengthening her (though at her request, these things weren't activated, but worked whenever being worn. Though Cynder didn't tell him so, she new that armor that connected to her mentally as Drobot's did would completely take her over).
His next work involved young dragons. While the eggs at the temple had been destroyed in the attempt to destroy the new purple dragon, there were a few other temples that the apes attacked. They brought Drobot the eggs, and when the hatchlings were a several years old (about Spyro's age in aNB), he released them from their stasis, and gave them their armor (that controlled them like his did). He called them drobits, and they helped him to create more and more sets of armors. He made more drobits by making armor that could grow it's own host.
Drobot will continue to create until Cynder returns, which may never happen. And even if she did, she wouldn't remember him. But he'd remember her. His armor has Cynder's genetic signature in its data base, and it's now under her command. Which makes Drobot under the control of two.
-----
So that's Drobot's story. He will show up in Spyro's comic (assuming I ever get to it). As you can see, I made some changes from the skylanders design, to make him fit my universe a little better.
Drobot and the original Drobit belong to activision
Ignitus, the Dark Master, Spyro, and Cynder belong to their current owners
The rest belongs to me

Cuz I like the diversity of dragon characters within it. I just plan to remake them in my own style.
