And he's a totally NEW character.
Basically, Kuraima is the body-guard of Clarice (although the samurai usually acts more as a personal servant than anything else...). Very loyal and obsessively obedient, he's a marionette to his master's point of view, a mindless warrior who does everything she tells him to do. He doesn't dislike his job, though, once he enjoys Clarice's company pretty much...
Besides, he really doesn't know any other life.
Name: Manukan Kuraima
Age: around 20
Height: 6’
Weight: 120 lbs
Weapon: common sword.
Likes: Clarice, green tea.
Dislikes: not being entirely covered up and, as a result, fire.
Background: quite a mystery. But he’ll tell you if you ask nicely.

Sorry, I can't draw kimonos and/or Japanese outfits for the life of me. I tried to make an interesting design, but after the fifth or sixth attempt I went all "whatever go for the cliché". Argh.

Unknown, I know you have a tendency to worry about the quality of your art, the details, specific things such as this. But now that I have calmed enough to send a proper and coherent message, I think it's at least worth telling you that to me, at least, the greater part of art lies in the reaction it provokes. And based on the frothing that is still going on in my chest, you can be sure that this art provoked a very, very good reaction. (Maybe I'll have to send you the IM conversation Teloka and I had later....I promise you it involved a lot of capitals.)
Art that provokes such reactions has soul. Your art has that. It inspires and touches. The most simple of expressions makes so many of us happy.

Eee! I think the best thing about the SDL is seeing how the artists modify their characters whilst still keeping them so recognisable. I really love the way certain aspects of his old outfit have followed through; like the inner fold on the kimono compared to the zipper-line, and the high collar. :3

hehe, I find it really interesting to see how much of a characters original design can be incorporated into any new setting! Like with little trinkets or colours or ittybitty shapes keeping the whole thing tied together; I think it takes a real lot of artistic merit to be able to keep something recognisable, and yet still suitable in another theme! hehe, I don't know if I could do it, that's for sure! XD
