Description The summer heat was trying to pull her down, making her legs feel heavy and the air she inhaled thick with humidity. Not even being near the water helped her cool down in the slightest. However, she continued her jog, focusing on her breathing instead of how hot it was despite it being barely eight in the morning. All of those bear claws and fries at Granny's have been taking a toll on her, but she was still having a tough time resisting.

She knew that she needed to maintain her health and weight ever since the job of being sheriff landed in her hands. Although she did keep herself fairly fit before because of her..."job", she wanted to fully prepare herself now that there were always threats to her and her family now that the curse was broken.

As she turned a corner to jog on the dock, she saw a familiar figure sitting on a bench; her posture as regal as ever. But as Emma got closer, she saw that the other woman held two ice cream cones, two simple little things that betrayed her power.

"Hey," the blonde woman greeted, slowing her jog until she stood with her hands resting on her hips and her chest heaving.

The mayor looked up, a delicate eyebrow quirking at the sight of the other woman as if seeing her was the oddest thing ever.

"Ms. Swan," she replied with a slight nod of her head.  "I'm surprised to see that you are actually trying to make an effort of maintaining your weight."

She glanced at the sheriff's attire, her running shorts putting her long legs on display and her tank top drenched in sweat that beaded down her neck and chest. The mayor cleared her throat, and brought her eyes back up to the woman who was busy wiping the sweat from her brow to notice. It was an unruly sight for the mayor to take in, but then again, it was Emma Swan.

"But I see that you still have a long way to go."

Emma snorted, nodding her head to the ice cream cones in Regina's hands.

"Can't say I'm not surprised about you either, Madame Mayor."

The brunette's cheeks flushed and she rolled her eyes.

"This is for Henry."

"Oh really?" Emma inquired. She looked about the dock, but couldn't find the little boy in sight.

"Why don't you continue your jog, Ms. Swan?" the mayor suggested, narrowing her eyes. "Some of us like spending our mornings nice and quiet."

"I think I'm done for the day," Emma replied. She sat down beside the mayor who curled her nose in disgust. "I like quiet mornings too."

Regina made an indignant sound, turning away from the blonde and hoping her son would come back sooner. She had been already a little on edge when Henry left her side a moment ago, but adding Emma now to take his place only increased her discomfort.

"You look nice today."

The comment...no, compliment caught her off guard and Regina turned around in her seat and gave the other woman a look as if she had just been insulted rather than complimented.

"Excuse me?"

"You," Emma said, gesturing to the woman as if it would help her understand, "look nice."

Regina stared at the woman in completely and utter confusion. Was this woman really that stubborn to the point that she had forgotten she had been called fat a few seconds ago? But then again, Regina reminded herself of Emma's heredity. Of course she would gain Charming's stubbornness and stupidity.

Before she could reply, something cold and sticky dropped on her hand and slipped right off. Regina looked down to find that the ice cream was melting and some of it had already found it's way to her pants.

"Oh damn."

Leave it to Emma Swan to utter a curse for you. Regina thought.

The blonde woman took the ice cream cones from the mayor so that she could clean herself up. Regina muttered under her breath as she wiped the mint ice cream carefully from her pants. It was all Emma's fault. If she hadn't shown up and carelessly thrown that stupid comment about her looks than this wouldn't have happened. Of course she knew that she looked nice! She was Regina Mills! She wouldn't dare to step outside if she looked anything below nice.

"Guess the kid inherited my good tastes too," Emma said.

"What?" Regina asked, irritated enough already. When she looked up she saw that the other woman was helping herself to the mint chocolate chip ice cream.

"Tastes," Emma repeated. "He likes cinnamon on his hot chocolate like me, and now this?" she licked the melting part of the green ice cream to prevent it from dripping anymore.

All Regina could do was gape at the woman, wondering how any further than stubborn could she go.

"What?" Emma asked just as Regina was about to pop another vein.

The mayor took a deep breath to calm herself, knowing that it would be futile and just as stupid to get herself riled up over ice cream. She clasped her hands behind her back to prevent her from knocking the ice cream out of the sheriff's hand, knowing that Henry wouldn't appreciate that and nor would she, not after all that she had gone through to change.

"Ms. Swan," Regina said, keeping her voice even but her gaze sharp as daggers. "Has it ever occurred to you that there are two ice cream cones in your hands?"

Emma furrowed her eyebrows in confusion and answered plainly as if it was the stupidest question she was ever asked in her life. "Well, yeah."

And then she had the nerve to lick the ice cream again. Regina's eye twitched.

"Ms. Swan," she said again, "has it ever occurred to you that maybe that mint ice cream, that you have taken the liberty of enjoying for yourself, would be mine?"

Emma paused, her tongue still on the ice cream as she realized what Regina had just said. She blinked and the pink triangle quickly retreating back into her mouth as her cheeks reddened. And out from her colorful vocabulary and millions of other things she could have said, she uttered one that Regina did not have in mind.

"Oh."

Like a child caught playing in the dirt, Emma timidly handed the two ice creams back to Regina. The mayor glared with such intensity, Emma was sure she would be running faster than she was a few minutes ago.

"Hey Emma!" a familiar, youthful voice broke the tension.

"Hey kid," Emma said, tousling his hair.

"Whatcha doing here?" he looked between his mothers and then spotted the mint ice cream that appeared much smaller than he had last seen it.

"Aw mom," he whined. "I thought you said you weren't go to eat without me."

"I said I wasn't," she said, then looked up at Emma who grinned cheekily, mouthing an apology. "But Ms. Swan had other ideas."

Thank you!

I've been trying to write chapters 22 and 23 before I post 21 (which is done but needs to go into some proofreading and final editing), but I've been having trouble with writer's block. I'll do my best to update before school starts again, I would hate to have you guys wait a whole other 10 months!
