I think it gives an unfair advantage when it's right up under a boxer's boobs like this but it's obviously not a rule that most refs feel like enforcing to keep the equipment down where it's supposed to be. I don't think Ava wants or needs to cheat, it's just this big protector did not stay down in the waist of the trunks she chose, then the waistband of the trunks helps to keep it too high after that. Boxers often don't get their actual fight trunks until fairly close to the ring time and then there isn't time to correct this sort of fit problem. In some cases it's deliberate and repeated though. I know the Americans fighting in Mexico expect to take more body punishment than they would elsewhere so there is an incentive to wear more bulky protection.

One trouble is Karen that i have to have an XL protector since i have wide hips and the makers assume a tall fighter. If i push it down to expose my navel (which i think is were it should be, the crotch part of the protector dangles between my thighs and makes sitting uncomfortable. I did have a very old male protector (before they made female ones) which was ok since it had a detachable box and the soft leather fitted between my legs nicely but it had no kidney protection. Eventually the elastic broke. I wish i could afford to try a Cleto-Reyes protector since they use much softer leather

I am all in favor of using the smaller protectors when they fit well. Getting a good fit is super important though, you have to be able to move freely in whatever you are wearing. Most of the top female boxers now are going with much smaller protectors because their best defense is their mobility and not being distracted by the gear. A lot also depends on who you are fighting, if you are facing a dirty body banger you may want more than if you are going against someone who fights clean!

Yes there is nothing not to like about her, she is very skilled, not afraid to fight on other peoples' turf, and just all-around nice. I love to watch her fight, she behaves like a true champion in every way.
