Description
From page 641 in the Dune Encyclopedia from 1984Advertising leaflet distributed by the Spacing Guild's Department of Tourism during the latter part of the reign of Leto II.
This may not be canon anymore, but the sheer volume listed (created?) by Willis E. McNelly in the book was staggering.
The chart represents connecting travel routes between planets and associated points of interest at the destinations.
The illustration had an accompanying description with icon descriptions as a legend:
"Follow the footprints of the Zensunni (Zensunni Site); enjoy nature at its finest (Preserves, Fishing); see the best corrida (Corrida) or arena (Arena) in the Empire; or just relax (Resort) and enjoy the entertainment (Cheops, Gambling)! See the most magnificent architecture ever erected (Architecture); visit the greatest stores of knowledge (Archives) ever assembled!"
There were additional symbols on the map without descriptions but they were significant to the planet they represented. For example, Chusuk had a treble clef as a sign for music; and Corrin had crossed swords for a battle site; and Aerarium had a dollar sign for the banking center. A few others were more of a guess such as the Cheops symbol, since Bolchef was mentioned as hosting intense competitions. Gamont had a strange similar symbol to Bolchef but it was just a blurry winking smiley face, which seems appropriate considering the nature of the theme parks and attractions available there.
