The underlying politics in Papers, Please and its predecessor The Republia Times are pretty cool.

Noticed that the EZIC star is actually a perfect fit for the Kolechia seal.

Which makes sense because most of the EZIC agents come from Kolechia and ultimately try to overthrow the government. This symbolism hints at Kolechia harboring resentment over the end of the Six Year War and thus attempting to subvert the Arstotzkan regime through embedded conspirators. I would imagine EZIC would attempt to bolster support after seizing power by strengthening ties with Kolechia, perhaps ceding East Grestin to appease them.

This model works perfectly for the events in The Republia Times with Antegria perpetuating tensions within Republia through domestic insurgents and a growing rebellion led by Kurstov. Given that the rebels aim to topple the government, it can be assumed that their sympathies lie closer to Antegria than the current Republia administration. This becomes obvious when the revolution succeeds and Republia is renamed Democria. I figured Kurstov would pull some self-aggrandizing shenanigans and name a city after himself.

All this provides an intriguing background ripe for exploitation. There could be an entire game built around being a courier between countries, helping or hurting other manipulative parties. One could upgrade vehicles in the process to increase capabilities. For instance, using profits from fast motorcycle contraband deliveries to purchase an SUV to carry desperate refugees. Or even a truck to smuggle large shipments of illicit or legal commodities.

The possibilities are endless. Especially if disgruntled clients become involved. Or hired assassins? Thugs? Abductors?
