Description
Its been some time since I've submitted a costume and I figured if people are going to commission me, I better have some pretty good reasons why they shouldThe costume was made for Renaissance Festival in Plantersville, Texas 2009. Unfortunately I didn't get to wear it because it had been rainy and was kind of cold.
Anywho, the skirt is made of different kinds of fabric, all very sheer which is why I'm glad the original design had lots of layering. All the flowers were hand sewed on. If you like this costume, I would be more then happy to make you one of your own.

Your design is truly lovely! The color pallet of misty greens and peach evokes the spirit of spring! The gauzy asymmetrical layers on the skirt give it a breezy feel and the big bow gives it such a feminine and sweet touch.
Skirt-
I would suggest to use a liquid glue called 'fray check" on the edges of the organza. This will keep that airy feel with out the fraying edges.
Bodice-
For the bodice I would add a little more structure by sewing in plastic boning to the inside hems. Also adding a decorative trim or even the same peach ribbon on the neck line and bottom of the bodice. I would go crazy with that ribbon and add streams of it flowing out from the bottom of the flower arrangement. Perhaps add another green color ribbon to the mix.
Outside of those small changes I think you already have a beautiful costume! It reminds me so much of the first faerie costumes I made for my sister and myself when we went to the Texas Renaissance Festival! I hope you have a wonderful time at the Festival!

Thank you so much for the lovely critique. Now I must find this "fray check" glue. It sounds like it will save me a lot of time and headaches. I want to try the boning in my next bodice costume, but since I've never worked with it before I'm a bit nervous. But practice makes perfect ^w^.
I want to make another fairy costume, water this time. And I'll be sure to add lots of ribbon (I love them too ^^ )
And I had a blast at the festival.

Overall I like the costume very much. I love the color and the cut of the skirt seems quite flattering and very much like I would envision for a fairy.
There are some flaws in my eyes, though. First I'd like the skirt better if it was finished with any kind of seam. I could imagine either a small zig-zag or maybe a ribbon folded around the egde. The ribbon could be silver for example, matching the bodice. Or copper, matching the one at the bodice. Or you could use the fact, that the skirt is made of polyester fabric (seams like it to me) and just melt the edge (holding it near a candle).
The lower edge of the bodice could do with some binding instead of the seam used with this one. That would be neater and would not turn to the outside.

The bodice was a bit rushed, and the eyelets gave me trouble so I had to up up the seams and re-sew @_@. The skirt I left undone because I wanted to give it a natural frayed look, as I would imagine a fairy would simply piece fabric together (what I wouldn't give for Glamor). That, and I had a limited time to make this costume. (darn my procrastinating ways)
But I am happy for your insight and I appreciate it greatly. It ready does mean a lot to me to get good solid feedback and ways I could improve. I do like the ribbon on the skirt hem idea though. And I'll try binding for the bodice next time I make one. Practice, practice, practice. ^w^

That's beautiful. Looks like something would use as their recital dress for a Dance Recital.

if you're worried about fraying on small areas of material or ribbons, clear nailpolish works well too

^^ no problem...
oh, it also works for stick-on gems--like for your skin. it helps when they fall off and refuse to stay on after a while--like glue except still removable

The skirt had elastic in the band so it can be worn at any length. And I do have a picture of me dressed up in it, but the quality is really bad. Plus I'm camera shy
