So I know this is a bit old, but I didn't think some of the critiques were very good. ( which is one of my pet peeves ) kind of destructive and not helpful. so I thought I'd put my two cents in and maybe some of it will carry over.
First let me start with the good, I think the shading is pretty good over all and the form of the pony anatomy and is also pretty good, the hair and lines are pretty well done as well. The eyes are very cute, and well shaded. The background is also pretty nice and fits well with the theme.
So now let me move onto the bad/critique part, you're right, the piece isn't exactly original, the pose is pretty typical, but by no means does that make this a bad piece.
Now onto the anatomy, the ear is a bit big, you might to make it a bit smaller and less thick.
The anatomy over all like I said was pretty well done, it just needs some refining, like the actual stomach and chest and neck art too small, and I think they need be brought down significantly. The legs and arms are a bit too high up on the body, the shoulder usually ends at where the body it touches the stomach. The wings while they are large, which is fine, I've seen plenty of RD's with big wings, these seem a bit lacking and odd, the top of the wings should be one line curved up and then it bends down at the very tip ( basic wing anatomy shown here: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/o… ) I hope that makes sense. And you might want to add some top feathers/more feathers inside
The hair could use a little more tweaking but it looks fine to me. So that's pretty much the end of my critique, like I said, I think over all the piece is well done, the anatomy just needs a little more work.

Ok though- this is really well done. You're improving at using lines in your art. Honestly, I'm big on 'art looks better with lines' at least in cartoon style things, so I like it.
the shading is good, however on the wings there should be more shading on the feathers. Also, try to do darker shading. You've got highlights down, but darker places should be a bit darker. also, the hair looks like it's made out of plastic.
Over all this is good. Though, as the title implies, it's not original. like at all. But I like it.

You got what you were going for and we can see it clearly. However, even as you said, it's not original, there are many pictures very similar to this one out there and many of better quality. Th Quality however is still very high, but not exceptional. As nice as it is, there's a lot of better work out there of similar styles. You did create a good impact with it. While nothing groundbreaking. It's a very nice peace, but not a very memorable one.
I'd work on making art unique and making it stand out. The quality is good and you've captured the vision of the peace, but it's not very original and it's rather forgettable.

I kinda lost inspiration for being creative because I had so many good projects on my laptop, then my hard drive got fried. A few months later I got my drive back, started working again, had a bunch of awesome rough drafts...
And some asshat wiped all my files from the computer, and emptied the recycling bin for good measure.
So I give up.
