I absolutely love doing collabs. This one is with , who did a Kouga/Kagura picture at my request a while back and now loves the pairing almost as much as I do. She did the lineart and I colored.Once again, I borrowed (with permission) a deviation by . The background is a photograph she took at the Smokey Mountains on Christmas, 2004. I added in a clip of a rocky ledge to give them something to sit on, but you can see the original deviation here - [link]
Colored using Photoshop 4.0 and my mouse. I've been playing around with shading and, of course, my handy smudge tool. I discovered that my version of Photoshop actually has dodge and burn, but haven't had the chance to experiment with those yet. Believe me, after seeing some of the results that other artists here on DA get, I'll be trying those out real soon. I'm especially happy with the way Kagura's kimono turned out.

Well, Kagura is a detachment of Naraku, but she's not "with" him in any sense of the word. She's tried to escape from him - to betray him - from the beggining. Later chapters, leading up to chapter 374...well, I'd have to give away a major spoiler, and if you don't follow the manga that comes after episode 167 of the anime, you might not want to know.

Thank you. Again, a great lineart to begin with, and I had fun working on the kimono - it was my first real attempt to get the folds and curves looking more 3D and I think it turned out pretty good, even if I had to say so myself.

When you see them like this, you can't help but think they look great together. *mylittlejoy did an amazing job with the lineart. Coloring was easy after that.

Well, the sad thing is, you could go to Tokyo and still not see them. I'd love to run into Inuyasha, or Kagome, or any of the others (well, anyone but Naraku, although he's rather yummy in an evil kind of way). We have to be content to meet up with them only in our imaginations and dreams, though.
Aren't the Smokey Mountains amazing? The picture I used was from a friend, but I was there a number of years ago, and they were breathtaking.

And I know what you mean about the lineart. I know from my own experience, that if you don't like that way the linart looks, you won't do a good job coloring it either. Of course it goes the other way as well, if you're happy with the lineart you'll do an extra good job with the colors

Thanks. I tried experimenting with the shading and I guess it turned out all right, since everyone seems to like it. I'll get better over time. I started coloring our collab last night - got the base colors on their hair and all, and I'm going to play around with a different shading/highlighting on their hair this time. I think you'll like it!

Nah, didn't get his butt this time, but I did get another kiss (the other cheek - I was teasing my kids about what cheek he'll kiss next time I see him). I should be able to see him again at Acen in May, and he's already agreed to come in for my Inuyasha panel there. That will make panel #17...
