Very nice work!
I also thought she is a "real" person, due to the surrounding area which you normally won`t expect a statue. Together with the blood you would expect a real human being. But as I said a really cool picture!

Hey thanks a lot!
There is quite a backstory to that picture, but I should have certainly done something to make it self explanatory.
It's a scene from a novel : the protagonist are looking for the cause of a tainted water source, and when exploring the caves where the spring originates from, they find this old statue of the water protecting deity inside. And somebody has strapped a corrupting artefact to it.

Ok, that makes sense Maybe you should write some short story in the describtion of your artworks, so the observer can dive deeper into your work.

Looking good- it's very moody. The depth of focus effect is nice and the limited colour scheme makes the red really stand out.
If you want advice- I'd say the anatomy needs a little work- but then that applies to pretty much everyone! Besides that, I'd say focus on your brushwork. Try and really vary the shapes and forms, thickness of lines etc and you wont go far wrong.
Criticism aside- I reckon this is the best one you've done for a while, so keep it up!

Thanks.
I'm not fully sure about the brushwork, but I guess you mean to avoid repetitive patterns?
And it may be the best looking but not the most technically difficult one. No matter how long I spend on characters it doesn't work out as well.

Yeah- avoid repetitive patterns in the picture, but also in your brush strokes.
Well characters are hard. Anatomy takes years to learn well- but I think the fastest way to improve is to to learn the proportions of the figure- that way you check at a glance whether you've drawn something a bit wrong. Also look at loads of reference. take your figure out of the picture- plop it down in a new layer in a new document- then find a photo of someone in a similar pose. and put that next to them and compare the two. It's always useful.

Ah thanks. I guess I'm currently doing this (I indeed even included a reference for this picture, first as a way to check the composition, then as an actual body reference)
And I'm certainly mostly hindered by practice. Like I know how many things are supposed to look like but will screw them on my first attempt, thus triggering an exhausting string of corrections later.
I could maybe sketch more though I'm not sure of how that translate exactly to tablet skills. (the motions seems kinda different to me)
Is the statue so off putting as it is? What about the two deviations that went before (excluding the quick goblin one)?
Thanks for feedback as always

I'm not sure what you mean by "Is the statue so off putting as it is?"? Is the girl in the picture a statue?
With regards to reference- it's easy to look at it and assume you've taken it all in, but generally its a lot harder than that. I suggest you draw a picture from reference, then trace the same reference picture and put them side by side. That will clue you in to where you might be going wrong. Id also suggest looking at the reference right at the beginning then putting it away. Don't look at it again until you decide to take a break- this stops the exhaustion and annoyance of switching back and forth between the picture and the reference and lets your mind just flooooow. (And it makes you look much more deeply at the reference picture before) Try it.
The motions for tablet skills are different, true, but the lines you make and the things you want to draw don't need to be. If you know how to draw something traditionally then you know how to draw it digitally, right? It always helps!
Looking at your last few deviations I'd say they're mostly sound but you may be making heads too big and necks too long. Maybe think about softening the forms of the noses. I like the hair in the dark fairy one- it's more delicately handled than the others. Her hand and her arm are impressive too. I'm crap at hands.
As always, glad to help. Hope not too patronising.

No, don't worry about the feedback tone
Yes she's (it's) a statue. Now I realize many people didn't figure this out, maybe because I didn't use any specific stone texture on her but with the level of detail of the rock around her it would have been weird since she's quite smooth.
In this specific instance I didn't try to mimick the reference perfectly, since it was not looking like I wanted. Your advice may have been relevant to a couple older artworks where I did try to learn to paint from a model more exactly.
Oddly enough I find painting from a reference quite relaxing on its own way. You don't have to start wondering what should go where and pondering the values, once you got the shapes in place. I'm not enough experienced to avoid overthinking in the middle of fully original artwork.
I've been told my noses were not enough defined at the same time. I guess I should spend more time around their tiny details The neck of the girl who served as reference for the Seelys artwork was quite long and her shoulder kinda blended with it at a specific angle. I should have avoided trying the same.
And thanks about Obsidiane! The first version had an already good clothing (in my opinion) but her head was crappy so I decided to spend a few more hours on her)
