Description
Elves are healers of magical creatures, sure. Well, the cute or pretty ones anyway. If a big-eyed baby manticore gets orphaned, there are elves there before the first tear hits the ground. If a hippogriff gets a hangnail, elves will wait on it hand and foot until it's too fat to fly. And if a unicorn gets a stone in its hoof--dear lord, call out the national guard, there'll be elves peeling grapes and fetching pillows at all hours, the finest elven podiatrists will be called in, it's a crisis.*But if a troll hurts itself? Yep, there's only one elf you call in then, our patient and long-suffering friend, Sings-to-Trees.

As a general rule, and for many reasons that seem at least as rational to me as an aversion to spiders seems to a pathological arachonphobe, I'm not overly fond of elves. Their universal prevelance in post-Gygaxian fantasy settings is to me symptomatic of what is wrong with the genre.
I like Sings-To-Trees. Somehow, in being a parody of elven stereotypes taken to their extreme, he becomes more likeable. His devotion is amusing, but you've got to RESPECT him.
The next time someone drags me into a game of Dungeons & Dragons (which I have found has too few dragons and too dratted many elves), I may, with your permission, have to play him, or a reasonable facsimile.

Really gives a different sense of scale to your trolls, I must say... but he's so cute and yet so ugly and yet so cute... the troll, not Sings-to-Trees, of course.

I love this^^ An elf who takes care of the dirty jobs, not just tending the photogenic animals. Puts me in mind of a children's book I loved, or a quote from it. God Bless The Gargoyles- "God bless the rain, and the stormclouds that bring it. God bless the song and the voices that sing it. God bless the ones who sing everything wrong- God bless all creatures who do not belong."

I'm liking this character more and more. He's spiffy. And of course, all them ugly things need people to help them. I love ugly things. Snakes and spiders and baby pelicans and such. Like the troll's expression.
