Description
Once upon a time there was a sloth who wanted very badly to be a belly dancer.People said "It's not that a sloth can't be a dancer--
we live in an enlightened age,
a sloth can do whatever she wants--
but still--perhaps a stately waltz or minuet?
Sloths are not quick.
That's just the way it is."
But the sloth's one desire was to be a belly dancer, and so she was,
dancing to the tambour and the wailing flute.
She was very slow. It took all night.
Most people left.
But a few people stayed, and thought
that it was worth the wait.
-----------
I haven't painted a straightforward silly Weird Animal Pin-Up in a dog's age, so I figured what the hell. Three-toed sloths are under-represented. Particularly as belly dancers, damnit.
Mixed media, 10 x 15 or thereabouts. Original is for sale, prints available for $10 plus shipping--send a note or visit [link] for details.

I've seen a sloth up-close and let me tell you- they're pretty cute and all (they're like a little Chewbacca!), but gawd do they stink- like a dirty diaper full of pond scum.
Great work on making it look so graceful.

I love shloths, two-toed and three-toed Anyway this has to be one of the most surprising concepts I've seen in a while
Did you ever hear about how sloths are supposed to fall down the trees when it's raining, because their furs can soak up with too much water? Imagine walking through the rainforest and it's raining sloths, oh dear xD (Though I do hope no sloths get hurt by falling down trees)

I love the swirls at her knee and over her eyebrow. And the texture of the cloth is lovely.

I always enjoy the stories or poetry you give alongside your pictures; two art forms so frequently held separate can be wonderfully united. This one I especially appreciate as it lifts my heart.
Thank you for your art.

As a bellydancer myself, I respect this sloth immensely. ^_^ And some of the most expressive dancing I've ever seen has been slow. Slow often takes more skill than fast because the movements have to be graceful and nearly perfect as everyone can see them for so long.

The detail behind her reminds me greatly of the red kick balls they used to give us in gradeschool to throw at each other.

Aww that's so beautiful, especially the ending to the back story. It really makes the picture more beautiful to look at, to me at least. :]
Also, the design for the background looks really nice with this piece! It keeps that whole mysterious mood that you tend to get with belly dancers, but the warm color makes it look much more appealing.

This is inspiring to me - I'm not the most svelt lady on the planet, but I'll be damned if that's going to stop me from practicing with my bellydance DVDs and wearing my jingly belts in public.
And I would pay good money to see a bellydancing sloth.
