Is it ,like, a law that all fictional doctors have to squeeze a little of the medicine out of the needle before they give a shot?
Anyways nice comic.

Heh, I felt the need to answer this, as I see a lot of people ask this question when it comes up in art or movies/tv. You're missing a step in your question though. See, the way it it supposed to work is the syringe or whatever is turned needle-side up and flicked, forcing any air bubbles to the top, *then* it is squeezed until a small amount of liquid comes out. This allows the doctor or nurse to know that all the excess air has been removed. This serves mostly to ensure accurate dosing, since it can be extremely precise and to much air in the chamber can throw measurements off. Also its to make sure the air itself is not injected into the body. While this is a lesser risk, especially with the methods used in our world today, its not something you want to have happen either. While rare, in the worst case air bubbles injected into the bloodstream can cause an embolism, and can block blood-flow to the heart or brain. But as I said, with modern methods this is very rare, and requires a rather large air bubble (small ones the body can expel on its own). So in practice its mostly used for dosing these days. But it is considered good practice to remove the air from your syringe in any case, and it was even more important in the past, which a lot of fictional doctors are based in.

Anyway, hope this helps. Sorry if I maybe over-explained a bit ^_^.
