Description
Hee~ My final project for my weaving class in college. I made this using four shafts with 1-2, 3-4 treadling on a floor loom. Typical tapestry settings. ^_^I'm really proud of it~ It took forever, and has some embroidered details. Made of wool. Yadda yadda. *bounds off to submit more art* ^_^

Lo vely! I really like the way you worked the colors to make flames and the phoenix at the same time.

Ah, thank you! The only way I had access to the tools was through my college fiber design class. I don't think I'll ever be able to afford my own loom.

Was this your first attempt? I'm taking a college-level fibers class and the idea of making a tapestry is a bit... overwhelming. Hehe Got any advice or anything that'll calm my nerves?

Omg, I'm so sorry about the lateness of this reply... ><
Yeah, this was my first tapestry. The treadling was very simple (1-3, 2-4), so don't let that scare you. Also, originally I had made this whole elaborate diagram of the final image on graph paper and had tried to stick to it like glue, but I figured out quickly that you CAN'T follow a diagram exactly, it just makes it look like poo (hence, the black smudges that were supposed to be peacock tailfeathers. >.>; ). A suggestion would be to draw out what you want it to generally look like, and keep it by your loom as a guideline only. And don't let it hinder your free creativity, as methodical as weaving can be sometimes. The tapestry turns out better if you're flexible with it. And watch the tightness of your weft.
Long story short: Don't make my mistakes! And good luck!

Wow, that is really impressive! I've done small weavings/tapestries in my high school crafts class but on primitive little cardboard looms. I like weaving and want to do more someday, hopefully I can take a weaving class in college! What are the dimensions of the tapestry?

Umm....probably about the size of a sheet of paper, maybe a little narrower. When I have a house big enough, I've wanted to get a full loom. There are endless creative possibilities with a loom, but they're really expensive.

I wish I had a big loom too! It seems bigger in the photo to me than it actually is, but it is still an awesome tapestry!

Thanks. That thing caused me to get an incomplete in my weaving class, it took so long, but the teacher allowed me to come in over the summer to finish it.

Aww, I'm sorry you got an incomplete for it, it's beautiful!!!! At least your teacher let you come in and finish it though.

Incredible work! I love the contrast on top, but what are the marks at the middle right? I'm going to kick myself when I figure it out, aren't I?

LOL! Those are *supposed* to be like peacock feathers (I draw phoenixes with long peacock feathers in their tails), and *supposed* to look iridescent, but as you can tell they are just crappy weird black things on the lower right side. It doesn't surprise me at all that you couldn't tell what they were.
That was the side of the tapestry that I started on, and seeing how it was my first design tapestry ever, I got the hang of it after that point. It's also my least favorite part of it. I was just waiting for someone to ask about them.

As long as I haven't gone insane! (cough)
Still, it looks really cool! Even if it IS your first!

Thanks muchly... Took me 3 months (which is a problem because A) the class was 4 months long and B) you can only have one thing on your loom at a time). I'm quite proud of it~
