Really, he should've done the splitting thing for PP. >.> Phantom could handle the ghosts, and he could handle the humans and no one would find out all awkwardly!
He'd just be pissed as hell when he thought Phantom was hurt and might storm out to the crashed plane.

But his power gets limited if he splits himself. He might not have had enough energy to turn the whole earth intangible.
Although Danny running to Phantom would've been an interesting scene
