Description #SKULL-E-D

Breed is Closed from Public Creation!
From now on, only Starters can be designed by me.
You may still breed Skullequines.
The Skullequine traits will now be expressed via GENES. Please add these to your Skullequine and Skullequine cross's ref!
SkllSkll/nSkll gene: Will have a double skull, cloven hooves.
SkcSkc/nSkc gene: Multiple colored markings modifier. (Max. 3 different colors)
----SkllSkll Skullequines can only have markings over the legs/skulled face.
----nSkll can have markings over the body as well as legs/skulled face as the Skll gene is half as strong.
If Skullequine Blood is less then 25%, no trace of skullequine features/genes will be present in offspring.
SkullEquine:

The Skull: On top of their natural equine skull has formed another skull (only the top jaw) that mimics that of another animal.
Mimic Animal Skulls: Allowed.
Mimic Extinct Animals/Dinosaurs: Allowed.
Mimic Fantasy Animals: NOT Allowed.
The doubled skull is merged with the original equine skull. Therefore cannot be removed. To do so will kill the horse.
The skull will stretch to cover the entire top-line of the original equine skull, even if the mimicked skull belongs to a small creature such as a bird or turtle.
You do not have to be the perfect artist to draw the skull, so does not have to be exactly like a photograph.
-Please also list the mimicked skull's animal name/classification in the artists comments for fellow breeders.

Skull Color/Markings: The nSkc gene restricts the marking colors to 3 colors. This included the skull's base color. So if you keep the skull white, that becomes one of the 3 chosen colors, and you may only have 2 additional colors for markings.
Markings can be in any color.
Markings are often tribal in shape, but are not limited to tribal.

Horses Coat Color: The horse's coat has nothing to do with the nSkc gene, and be any coat color a normal horse can be.
White pattern modifiers: Allowed
Coat Dilutes: Allowed

Eyes: Due to the growth of the second skull, they lack eyes all together. Instead they see thermal imaging.
Because of their unique sight, they have heightened senses of smell and hearing.

Behavior: They are quick learners, with a willing eagerness and curiosity of the things and creatures around them.
Young Skullequines can be quite skittish as they learn to move and cope with the world via thermal sight.
Aged Skullequines are very confident with their thermal sight and heightened senses.
Are very expressive of their emotions. Anything from being quite vocal to just tilting of the head.

Background: Not much is known about the origins of this breed and how they came about, but legends have foretold that the Devil himself desired horses for his festivals, and so bred many of his demonic equine beasts. Not all the resulting foals proved satisfactory to him, so he released the foals from hell, which bred with other normal horses until this was the result.

Lifespan: The longest recorded Skullequine was 700 years old.
0-13 years, Skullequine is considered 'green'. Can be very skittish and hard to train.
13-100 years, Skullequine has learned to cope with thermal sight. Reaches sexual maturity during this span.
101-700 years, are ages Skullequines, they are completely confident with abilities and hold great wisdom.
700+ years: Elder Skullequine, can become weaker and skittish depending on lifestyle. Doubled Skull becomes brittle and can loose their thermal sight altogether.

Body build: Because of so many released foals onto earth, which bred to many different horses, all body types are allowed. However some are rarer then others for reasons currently unknown.
Light Body Build (Ex. Arabians): Allowed.
Medium Body Build (Ex. Friesians): Allowed.
Heavy Body Build (Ex. Shires): Rare. *Requires my permission*
Pony Body Build (Ex. Shetland Pony): Very Rare. *Requires my permission*

Hooves: Cloven Hooves.
All SkllSkll Skullequines will always have cloven hooves.
nSkll Skullequines may have cloven hooves, or normal hooves.

Disciplines: Their thermal sight does not restrict their athletic abilities.
However, it is wise to not compete with a 'green' or 'elder' horse.
Disciplines are best fitted to the horse's body build, same with a normal horse.

Breeding: Older Stallions, can and will, use their doubled skull to battle other stallions for mares. Successful stallions can obtain a large herd of mares, obtain choosing a lead mare to watch the herd while he's away.
Skullequine x natural horse = nSkll/nSkc genes.
Skullequine x Fantasy breed/horse = nSkll/nSkc genes + additional modifiers from Fantasy parent.
Skullequine x nSkll/nSkc = SkllSkll SkcSkc, or nSkll nSkc
The type of Skull the foal gets is inherited from parents. The foal could get a skull just like the sire or dam, or a mix of both.

Tack: The doubled skull is actually quite durable.
Young Skullequines are still strengthening their skull as well as senses. Use a custom bit, or training rope only. Or risk permanent damage to horse.
Older Skullequines skulls are very durable and tough, can handle all bit types without damage.
Elder Skullequines, should not be competed with.

Ask me anything that you find unclear about the breed.

Nyroc-The-Wolfeh In reply to ??? [2011-09-05 03:51:03 +0000 UTC]

Wow, this looks like an awesome breed XD
So just to make sure I read correctly, free to use, without like having to join anything or anything like that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Utakame In reply to Nyroc-The-Wolfeh [2011-09-09 01:19:55 +0000 UTC]

Nope, they are free to create no strings attached

Nyroc-The-Wolfeh In reply to Utakame [2011-09-09 03:02:47 +0000 UTC]

Ok cool XD

Oh, you said there were rare dire breeds, correct (or am I thinking about another?)
Anyways, if that is the case, is there such things as a light/med mix? (example: An arabian crossed with a fresian. I just want an Arab with floofy feathers XD)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Utakame In reply to Nyroc-The-Wolfeh [2011-09-10 00:05:42 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I don't recall dire, but draft builds like shires and clydsdales are rare. An arabian/friesian cross would be medium build which is prefectly fine.

Okay thanks! Just wanted to make sure it was okay! Anything else I should know about the Skull Equines that is not emotioned in the breed sheet, lik, do they get along with other horses or stay by themselves, do they make good parents ect?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Utakame In reply to 1w1w [2011-06-23 19:17:30 +0000 UTC]

They act much like normal horses, just that their sight is different and because of that it can make them skittish of things.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

1w1w In reply to Utakame [2011-06-23 19:20:53 +0000 UTC]

Ah okay, so they have trouble seeing and there eyesight isn't so great then correct?

Also, I am doing relativly cheap point commissions on this account and my stable account :iconMGSStables; if you want to take a look^^
