They are, however, a private species... Which means you sort of have to enter contests or adopt them in adoptable batches.

Evil spirits infiltrate the mind and basically become a parasite within the living Reaper, changing their personality and the such like. Any Reaper can succumb to such an attack, especially if they haven't been trained to close their mind properly. There are some who are more susceptible to being controlled. You are right, they can be haunted by them as well...

It is any Reaper's duty to report dark spirits to the Judges and Vanquishers, but they are difficult to detect because they can conceal themselves away. They can send messages through Archers, but once an Archer has let it in to its mind... it has a means of getting in for good- if you see what I mean

I do see what you mean. Should it enter your mind once it could enter it just as easily as you walk through your front door, correct?

Now,for a dark spirit to send a message through an Archer, does the Archer have to willingly accept it or is the message forced by the spirit? Also, can the dark spirits cause phantom pain and illusions? Just curious as to what a spirit can and cannot do.

That is correct ^^ But... they have to be invited in, all be it unwittingly (sort of like vampires I guess lol ) The evil spirits can do anything, literally.. invoke pain, illusions as you have said and what not. The way the message is taken depends on the individual Reaper in question... so forced is common, but if the individual WANTS to be corrupted as it were... you get my drift

Fascinating...however do Vanquishers manage to capture these guys? The battles must be more fierce then i previously thought.

Do you mind if i ask a few more? I'm trying my best not to swamp you with my curiosity but I'm afraid as you answer each question another just pops into my head. Should my curiosity become an annoyance please tell me - i wish not to be a pest.

Now for the next set. I warn you...

i'am aware of the fact that the answer to this may vary due to the nature of the spirit and it's intentions, but in general...what is the outcome?
Let's say that a Reaper has been Corrupted. Would there be anything different physically? Would a fellow-in-arms be able to sense something was wrong or would they remain oblivious since the spirit holds the power to hide itself? If the Corrupted one were to battle a Vanquisher and lose, what would happen to the Reaper who was under the spirits control? Would they die?

Is there one major herd or are there many smaller herds and/or bands that wander the land?

I assume that all Reaper Unicorns are called to service and none that carry a Reapers blood remains unemployed, but is it possible for a Reaper not to take on one of the five duties? If an Elder doubts the character of an individual what would be come of them? Would the individual in question still become a Reaper despite the Elders protest?

I don't mind at all
It is variable again as you say... completely depends on the nature of the spirit and indeed the individual. Some may show a slightly dirty aura i.e. the colour is darker than previous, and on occassion others can sense it but usually only the older more experienced individuals.

The individual would not necessarily die, but this is obviously a real threat. The individual in question may live, but have no recollection of what had happened, they may even change personality from time to time as a result, they would be maddened by their ordeal and would be subject to regular repeat attacks. This is why they are taught from a very young age to keep spirits away no matter how much they sweet talk ^^

There are lots of small nuclear herds. Usually family groups but sometimes they are just groups of mares and stallions and foals that enjoy the protection in numbers and the company.

All receive their duties in their roles no matter what the Elder's thoughts as they are merely there to guide and advise, and all are expected to prove themselves... if they prove to be not of sound mind and heart they are bannished. If that makes sense, I've not introduced the Outlanders yet... but I will in due course

However, i now wish to know more of what it takes to vanquish an evil spirit. What must a Vanquisher do in order to defeat them?

What do Reapers do when one of their kind falls to Deaths embrace?

Gosh, that question is a very interesting one. If a reaper dies, or falls victim... depending on how close the other reapers are by blood, will determine how badly they are affected. The loss of a sibling for example could render them powerless for a time, the same with the loss of a mate I suppose etc. There are rituals and the such like to mark such occassions- reliant on status etc.

In order to defeat... the vanquisher must bind the evil spirit, and then absorb it into his or her soul and keep it locked there
