So I've been bitten recently by the steampunk/cyberpunk/cybergoth bug recently, and decided that a gasmask-type apparatus would look awesome done in chainmail.To be honest, I'm not sure I like the result. I went with all black, which might be part of it, because I think it looks more like a ninja mask than the sort of breathing mask I was going for. Color might fix this, but it might not. The addition of goggles might also make it look more like it's supposed to.

this peace mite benifit from some full maskage like have it go under the chin and behind the head and make it look more post apycoliptic (sorry if thas spelled wrong)

That's not a bad idea... definitely deserves more thought. I've kind of put this project on the back burner for now, but we'll see how it comes along.

If it helps any to make it look more Gasmask-y, link in larger brass or silver rings protruding out in some geometric pattern maybe? Overall I like it regardless, and kinda want one now ^.^

That's a thought - I bought some large tubing which might work out well woven into the maille. We'll see.

That's REALLY cool. I agree that it makes me think of ninja a little... maybe change it to an olive green or something? but seeing it in a steampunk outfit would be excellent. It's almost kind of a 'rogue' sort of piece, something a bandit or whatever might wear.

Yeah I think as it is, it's more of a rogue/ninja type piece - it's pretty cool, but not at all what I was going for. Oh well, I'll keep working on it and see what I come up with.

It does remind me quite of a ninja (which is possibly why I first thought 'Oh, BADASS!'

I know exactly what you mean - I found an old tube from a shop vac, which I'm going to cut up and attach... somehow.
I had an idea, which is find a super cheap respirator like they use for painting, and somehow cover it with chainmail, and attach in hoses.
That, and I would like to re-work the ninja-mask, too, cause it's a pretty cool concept.
