I like the portrait. Judging by the shadow, I'll assume you were using a flash? If so, is it from your camera? or is it an external flash? I ask because depending on your flash, using a longer exposure time (1/60th - 1/30th of a second) with a bit of a smaller aperture (1-1.5fstops above the recommended stop for the particular flash setting) can help reduce the cast shadows.
