Description

Made for ^^
This is my take on those creatures that hold items in Metroid, called Torizos.

I mainly used sprites from Super Metroid as inspiration, and I was suggested to color it after the golden individual that one's encounter in Super Metroid.
I decided to color it on the computer in order to get closer to the dark, intense palette of Metroid & Super Metroid. I really like how this one turned out, I think I managed to catch the "Metroid feel" in it quite well...

It's pose is supposed to be a bit symbolic. It's sitting in fetal pose, and now it's wakening up and is "reborn", springing into life once again (those who played the game may get what I hint here, hehe).
But the one who I drew it for also figured that may be going to sleep instead. That works too!

Actually, I thought that the torizo were mechanical or robotic in nature rather than living creatures...as that stuff that drips out of their bellies looks like some sort of machine fluid and they can still move around after their heads are destroyed.

The Chozo created their various statues to serve different purposes. In the case of the Torizo statues, they're guardians of valued relics. In Super Metroid, you fought two Torizo, and were helped by two Chozo statues.

Oh, and for a simple way to tell the difference between the two types of statues, the Torizo ones have eyes that angle downward, whereas the Chozo ones have upward-angled eyes.

They are the Chozo.
The Chozo are a race that reached a technilogical peak and came to peace, which was disrupted when something called "phazon" was brought to their main world by asteroid.

The gold Torizo statue. Nice detail into the statue. When I first saw one of those Chozo statues come to life I had no idea it was going to attack me. When I look into detail about the Torizo I had a feeling that the Chozo were not agressive creatures let alone they have disappeared. Nice job on the picture.

I love it, it looks like a mix between the Chiton of an alien and the mystical properties of the chozo. And the background and pose, wow! This gets faved!

I had just dug this picture up off of my harddrive to show off when i come across it here, recently posted coincidentally.

Chozo statues sit around. Torizos resemble chozo statues but attack.
Ecco was originally from the early 90s for sega genesis as well. Ecco2 and Super Metroid are definately my favs. Very original feeling atmospheres.

I have a large theory around these creatures. I like them too much.
This picture looks serene. To me, a torizo would wake up quickly to attack, and i feel there would be more motion in this were it waking up. But now having obliverated a nuisance of a space pirate, it wanders back to return to its 'sleep'.
And i just realized how skinny it is. I never noticed its belly line before.
Thank you for posting this. Its nice to see again and rather inspiring.
The idea of there being a brinstar torizo (based on the environment) we never ran into is... new depths to a world I like too much.
Why does everything always blow up after shes run through it..

They're Chozo statues. Torizo is one of the statues that "comes to life" and attacks you in Super Metroid.
