Those are WWII soviets. The whole uniform I believe is correct, pouches may be post war or 1945

How does the cannon fire only blanks? Is the barrel partially plugged to let only gas and smoke out but not an actual round?

It's drilled with a metal rod inside the chamber, you put a live in there and that cannon will blow up
