Description HOPLON Spec. # 2

Code Name: Loose Cannon

Fafnir

Creator: Dr. Seamus Wolfe

Territory: Europe

SIZE:

(height: ((at shoulder)) 75 meters)

(length: (160 meters))

(weight: ((calculated)) 80,000 tons, though when flying it is closer to) 35,000

Temperament: Territorial, Passive-Aggressive

INTELLIGENCE: Low to Average

Combat Style: Animalistic, Elemental, Weaponized, Aerial

Terms of Use in major emergencies: Only to be used in states requiring maximum firepower, containment after incident critical

Abilities:

-Osteokinesis: Subject is able to consciously and subconsciously control his bone structure, and has been used for offense and defensive measures. When strengthened, Fafnir is highly resistant to all known and tested conventional weaponry. It should also be noted that this 'bone wall' state is most often seen while in a state of deep sleep.

Offensive possibilities have mostly been observed in the wings. Through explosive osteoplast activity, the bones have more than tripled in both length and flexibility, often being used with spear-like functionality.

On another note, this Osteokinesis has proved to have one more ability. Later study showed Fafnir has capabilities of lightening his bone structure to the point where true powered flight was possible. It is truly a loaded gun, Fafnir showed combat ability increases in excess of 200%, though his resistance to artillery decreased by 500%, making the ability a true roll of the dice.

-Gas Bladder: Fafnir has a special bladder mostly used for the containment of hydrogen and methane, which somehow catalyze (study is still being done as to how) and result in a release of a royal blaze capable of melting steel. This also, when in flight form, allows for greater aerial mobility. It should be noted that this bladder is not infinite in capacity, and often requires strategic 'purging' in the form of a belch or flatus, often caustic enough to require a haz-mat team for removal.

Keen Sense: Fafnir possesses superior levels of the 5 major senses, able to see in near pitch-black, to hear the faintest of sounds, etc.

KNOWN WEAKNESSES:

Low Ice Tolerance: The only known proper containment method for Fafnir is through intense cryogenic bombardment, often costing several millions worth of chemicals.

Strain on the purse-strings: Fafnir, of all the known defenders, is the most expensive to wield, often through both destruction and containment. This is offset, however, by his 100% kill-mission success rate.

Attitude Problem: Fafnir, like anything his size would be, is a proud animal. This pride often leads to trouble with following the mission directive, often showing complete disregard and even more often turning on his own allies after the enemy was neutralized.

Interview with Dr. Seamus Wolfe

It is an honor to make your acquaintance. The Fafnir project? Yes, I am its creator, and if you wish to know details, I shall tell you.

After the incident in Dubai, the UN was thrown into a frenzy. From what the alien, who nonviolently agreed to quickly be placed in custody, claimed to be the source of the recent GC incidents occurring all over the world. Though, he did say that a few creatures, namely the bipedal armored crocodiles
and the Spider and Dragon from the Middle East, were not of his work whatsoever. But, he did say he knew where the spider came from, exposure to the dragon's blood mutated it. A colleague of mine, who was on site, reported the findings in a UN summit, revealing that MDB (Macro Dragon Blood) contained chemical compounds previously unknown to science, the apparent function being a sort of mutagen.

When used alone, it created a spider bigger than a fighter jet. So, the small group of scientists proposed a radical idea, based on their own sightings in Dubai and the testimonies of the Monster chasing group, the N.F.M.R. Study shows, the best way to fight fire is with a bigger fire.

When the project began, the early stages were UN funded chemist experiments, when the blood was cultured, studied, and ultimately, improved. Through the skill of mankind, what was a wild and uncontrollable element had become a weapon, an elixir from which the world would enter a new age, and the first of it to come about was Fafnir.

Fafnir was a prototype, from the get-go. When I was granted the popular of Europe's representative of the project, as well as the honor of being the first to work with the blood, most people assumed Europe's creature woulf be a prototype, powerful but faulty, only to be improved by the next region in line. Well, I like to think I showed them, but in truth the claim proved to be right.

I wanted something powerful, evocative, with a legacy as old as Europe itself, and the dragon seemed the fitting model. Especially when you remember that the formula came from a dragon, it only served as karmic justice to the mold, in my eyes.

I created the embryo with very little influence of outside species, I tried to harness the blood at its most raw, its most powerful, and after a few months, Fafnir came to us, a creature the size of a luxury sedan born in a test-tube.

Problems weren't immediate. As a newborn, he was quite placid, even playful and curious. But, his power was unmistakable, he could easily walk through a wall without any effort, and often injured personnel with a casual tail flick. I think his power made him proud, and stubborn. In fact, the first evidence of his rebellion came on the day we attempted to teach him combat commands. He ignored commands altogether, and almost killed us all. After that, we had to constantly keep him caged. We thought that was enough, but like any prototype, there were things we could not have known. . .

Growth spurts, for instance.

I see no need to explain further, the incident in London is already well known enough...

I don't Dr. Wolfe, but I do know his type. He's a proud man, he doesn't like being beaten, and he's lost in the past. I read up on him, he originally in college wanted to be the next Tolkien or Lewis, and write a modern epic. But, somehow that didn't work out, and now he's a geneticist, a darn good one. Especially seeing as how the UN hired him to build a monster.

Oh, but where are my manner, guv'nah? Oh right, I left them outside of our guarded cell!

It's not 'prison,' per se. After the incident in Dubai, the UN wanted us monster chasers where they could keep us. We were placed in the UN headquarters in New York, and kept in a guarded room. Yeah, that's right, guarded, with guns. BIG Guns!

Best part is that we weren't alone. Oh no, the alien was with us too. Can I mention that that guy rubs me the wrong way on here? Oh, and in case you are wondering, the 100 foot tall alien can turn himself human, sized, that is. In human form his eyes aren't changed at all, still bright and flamey as always, but otherwise he looks a tall blonde dude, red veins breaking through the skin when flustered. He was with us in the room, mostly quiet.

Reed attempted to talk to him, but there was no response. Mel, O' Malley and I tried to figure out why we were here, Emma was staring out a window, and Noelle, for some reason she was in a corner, facing the wall and clutching her head in her hands. The alien wouldn't look at her, his eyes were on Reed's mouth.

I really don't like any of this. . . .

When we were released, we were told that we could only move about the grounds and only to other locations on escort. It seemed that the UN wanted us where they could see us, too many things were happening at once to make much sense. Why do they care so much that we're in one place? What about those mysterious battleships at Australia that captured the crocodile that beat Ragido? Why was the alien with us? All this and royally no answers.

One day, we were allowed to go to the European Lab for what they called project Hoplon, to see 'Unit 2' or something. The alien, Sheymir I believe, was along for the ride, as taciturn as he'd been since he got there. His face was odd, he looked like he was studying us, our faces specifically. Trying to ignore that, I asked one of our guards what was going on. Realizing our predicament, he informed us all of much.

"Well, since your crocodile hasn't appeared in nearly six months, a lot has happened. The UN has finally decided to stop observing and start doing, and they've got means to do it. They've been using the blood of that stone dragon in Arabia to cook up some real nasties, completely unlike the monsters up to now. These are born monsters, unlike anything else. And Dr. Wolfe in England, he's got the first one, a real life dragon."

Yeah, we were all silent the rest of the trip. . .

Reed Alexander

It was surprising, seeing the lab first-hand. Our escort said we were allowed to because we had 'experience' in monsters and should be honored for our work in some fashion. First thing I saw was scorch marks on the remote laboratory walls. . .

The creature was impressive, not full grown according to the doctor but still bigger than an 18 wheeler. It was sleeping, and growing at a rapid rate studies showed. When the 'tour' of sorts ended, Dr. Wolfe excused himself, and a new voice broke out over the halls.

"That. . . monster. . .is. . . very. . . dangerous."

It was the alien. Reed immediately remarked how he could talk, but Sheymir silenced him,
"I apologize. I was. . . learning your. . . talking. Right?"

"You were trying to learn how to talk?" Reed again asked.

"Yes. . . that . . . beast is bad news. I need to get away from . . .th-no, here. I must stop it when it . . . es- escapes."

And lo and behold, not long after saying that, the alarm goes off in the lab. . . .

(note: Alright, now we come to the fun stuff!

This beastie is the first creation of DH's version of the EDF. Each continent, (sans antarctica) will get a chance to make a monster to defend their land, but like all expiramental trials, there are problems.

Fafnir is the first to come, a dragon monster with sheer size as it's main weapon. Now I know, Dragon=cliche in most cases, Fafnir is a cliche name, too, but that's kinda what I was going for. Cliche doesn't necessarily have to mean abominable, some people I know actually rather like them, and I have had the idea behind this guy for a while. Besides, the scientists in this universe named him, and the monster movies everyone thinks about in these cases didn't happen in the same way. Thus, these people name based on region, usually a deity or something like that. Fafnir is a famous dragon name from the Niebelung, an epic poem.

The osteokinesis, 'bone control' was a later addition, but I personally think I outdid myself on it, it gives him a real range to his combat specialties.

I think I did a pretty good job on the character myself. He was designed to be a sort of antithesis to the first dragon of the 'verse, Megidda, but he proves to be much along the lines of the traditional wyrm, big, bulky, and arrogant, not afraid of anything.

The next little arc will revolve mostly around Fafnir and the creations of Hoplon, and how Sheymir and later Ragido react. Fafnir's 'break-out' is a significant event, mainly because of one character's emergence. 'Till next entry.

The dragon is a well established symbol, it works its way into kaiju like everything else does and it works pretty well because most of its traits are desirable in any given monster. Fafnir here does a good job of that on first impression. Big, powerful and menacing reptile is pretty much what should always be on the menu in some form.

The story is going in an interesting new direction. The kaiju are among the people and it looks like the beginning of a new era is starting. I perdict really crazy shit in the future.

Your bet is about as accurate as it gets in this genre.

Yep, the dragon, the most spammed icon on the planet.

They indeed are awesome enough, but the way people treat them these days, no respect, oy. . . .

I hear yah Crim, I hear yah. People these days running around with their equine kitty, diabetes inducing dragons...if you can even call them that lol.

I mean, Asian dragons at least were so chimeric that it really didn't matter what went into them, carp and camel being among those things lol. Now it's like "how do we make this uber fluffy and lovable so we avoid all the icky reptile parts?" Balls!

And it's always the same type of dragon, the usual four legged and winged monstrosity. There were so many different types back then and now it's like you'd barely know because we got this wannabe unicorn things prancing around. Did they all forget that these things had a taste for virgins for christ's sake? I have a handy explaination for that but it's pretty gross lol so I'm not sharing it .

Anyway, you did a good job Crim. He has at the very least the proper personality of a dragon.

'Passive-Agressive' means, basically, unpredictable. You can be calm one minute and completely bonkers the next, the term is usually used along those lines.

Well, anyway, thanks. Glad to see you like it.
