Description
It is good to upload something to the main gallery, I tell ya hwhat. Boy am I bad with dealing with drought. Anyways, as I've already made annoyingly aware in months past, I've been hard at work developing a new kaiju series for some odd years now. 2009 I think it was? And, as you've all likely figured out, I've not been perfect with getting things out when I say I will. Leave it to me, right?
So, here's the best method my full-time schedule permits. I've been getting back into practice drawing bigger, more detailed creatures again, and as it would take time I don't have to color and edit fancy profiles (for a story kinda going in and out of limbo, I'm afraid), I thought I'd scan them in as sketches and show a little info about them. Over time, I'll get chances to color, write up better, more coherent pieces of exposition about them, and I'll edit them in pieces when time allows. All right, enough of that.
Kaiju Field Journal: Entry One
-Muerdon: A vicious insectoid beast, Muerdon makes its home in the ruins of Mexico City. It is one of the few kaiju to lack their inherent wanderlust, which is typically motivated by a desire for food or to seek better territory, and it sticks to this region, guarding it fiercely from all assailants, no matter their size. Its one of the more brutal tooth and nail style fighters, and also packs a deadly deterrant. Much like cicadas, its chitinous shell contains small (by kaiju standards, anyway) tymbals that generate a terrifyingly loud screeching sound, which can rupture kaiju eardrums, disable entire cities of their technology and, most morbidly, can cause people within 30 miles near to fatal symptoms, from intense discomfort to hemhorraging to instant, vibration induced death. It is rarely observed save by satellite surveillance and the occasional drone that doesn't catch its attention, and little is known about it.
It is also typically accompanied by a swarm numbering in the millions of tricycle sized, jet black biting flies. Once believed to be 'her' children, they are a symbiotic species that thrives off of her hide as a nesting site and provide additional deterrance to interlopers, as well as the peculiar habit of bringing back random, patternless pieces of various detritus and piling it in the center of her territory. They are not immune to her 'death rattle' as adults, which seems to actually impact how often she uses it, but they reproduce quickly, so there is usually always some form of them nearby. They are at present devouring much of central and some of southernmost north america, and their rate of consumption promises little in the way of hope for the people there that life could return there. Even if it were to be expelled, it is a barren wasteland with no life.
Among other kaiju, it is typically left alone. Burosa has crossed paths with it the most, and the pair seem to share a special enmity for each other. Kaiju of a more mystical origin are less held back by her techniques and can give her more than a fair fight. Mechs and ordnance weapons are difficult to wield without catching the attention of her swarm. All in all, a pretty nasty baddy.
-Burosa: The first kaiju to emerge from the 'diamond-burg' in antarctica, Burosa has a fearsome reputation that may actually supercede its true abilities. An omnipedal, semi-aquatic creature that is more comfortable in water than on land, Burosa is rarely seen actively pursuing human habitation, but when it does the affect is quite dynamic and has earned it some remarkable notoriety. Its body, like an electric eel's, is slimy and able to generate a lot of electricity into the air or water, which can affect technology and local sea life (such as the entire fish population within 10 miles of miami turning up dead in the water hours before it famously went ashore) quite badly. Its unique, hooked jaws can transfer electrical current through a bite, and its tail has powerful muscles that can force the vertebra apart and slam them back together with the force of a small earthquake. It rarely ventures more than 10 miles inland, though, before turning back to the sea. Its diet consists of whatever it can catch, and is responsible for the extinctions of almost a dozen species of whale.
It famously was first encountered (briefly) by two Baja fishermen, who called it a sea devil. Four months later, a more detailed, believable sighting was made off the coast of Okinawa, which led to a conflict over who had the right to name it (Ultimately it was settled by using a Romaji-ised version of the latter half of the word diablo, given the scientific nature of the 2nd discovering party.)
As the first known kaiju, and one difficult to get close to, Burosa has been little studied, but what footage exists suggests behavior beyond instinct, which hinted at the genetic origin of the creatures long before the answers truly came. Its smart enough to weigh its odds against larger opponents (Neptrex being the most commonly encountered, given their shared territory) but often not smart enough to know when to stop taunting them. He has proven challenging when it comes to mechanized offenses against him, given his natural electrical abilities, but at present the Centauri model quad-walker has proven very effective when deployed, often causing the creature to turn back before engaging in further destruction.

And there you have entry one, more to come in a bit.

Muerdon is a nightmare. She's nothing short of a giant monstrous Cicada. I remember them 17 year ones coming around and how low and maddening it was. This girl has ear murder written all over her.
I love Burosa the most. I just love me some big crocodile-looking monsters. Not sure waht he is though... Crocodile? Fish monster? I don't care, I love it.
