Description

Using my little watercolour-y postcard format again for magic class because it's fun xD. Anyways, story time!

Previous: Steady Growth

Zinna went into this class with optimism, maybe it was just that one ability she wasn't good at? Though after putting on that blindfold, she discovered that her one attempt at earth magic all that time ago hadn't changed anything at all. Zinna's glands flickered all over the place as tried to become attuned to the earth beneath her. This was nothing like wind magic. With wind magic it was so free flowing and easy to grasp, she could wave her wrists and bend the wild breezes around her. But with earth, everything felt so stiff, it was heavy and dense and she couldn't get her magic to flow with the earth as she could with the sky.

But Zinna took her time. She was determined to get this right and so she spent most of that day simply standing by the school, digging her claws into the dirt and trying desperately to feel the life around her through it. At one point she even sprawled herself out across the winter ground, trying to get as far away from the sky as possible. But it was to no avail, she couldn't feel a thing. Zinna rarely felt frustrated, but this was certainly one of those times. She crumpled up the blindfold and rolled over onto her side gazing at the landscape with furrowed brows. She felt like giving up and going home but Nix's concerned face played back in her mind. She closed her eyes trying not think of anything, trying to let her frustration fade so she could get back to focussing on the class. Then suddenly, through her relaxed breaths she felt a dull thudding. Her eyes shot open and she sat up, rigid and tense. She looked around, but there was no one near her, all the other students were far off in the distance. Zinna looked back towards the ground and took a deep breath, letting the tension fade before she laid back down. This time when she heard the faint thudding, she leaned into it, she pressed herself further into the earth and suddenly she could feel students running around just ahead through some trees, their footsteps echoing through the earth with each bound.

With a new excitement and enthusiasm, Zinna scrambled to her feet. She snatched up her blindfold and jogged towards her fellow students she felt just before. As she came up on the clearing where they were practicing, she took a moment to observe them all before putting on her blindfold and taking a deep breath. The darkness settled in around her senses and not a moment later was it broken with green waves of movement. Though it certainly was nothing like wind magic, every thud, tap, hit or slide across the ground seemed to flow through the earth in a different way.
