Description Hi!
This is something very different from what I did before.
I was wondering for a long time what can I do against abortion. I talk to some close people about that but that's it. So let try this way.

So people who are for free, legal abortions, they say that they dont kill babies, they just take fetus of. Fetus is just different name for a very small baby. Can anyone say what is the moment when fetus become baby? How can that be some week or whatever? Its OK to kill very small person, but its bad to kill big one.

I know this is not the best quality illustration, this is just my first try but if you want to use it feel free. You can download original vector file from [link]
You can edit it as you wish but pls dont change the point.

Thanks and I'm open for all correction if there is some mistakes here in my work.

You are missing the point. A fetus is the potential to be a full human being, but it can't really be said to have the same value as a full adult. A grown up man or woman is usually educated, self aware and contributing to society- a fetus doesn't produce the same value. It's not an issue of species, but of value.

And I value an unborn child as much as anyone. Because it is human, and all humans deserve the same value.

But they don't. On what basis do we say a fetus is worth the same as a fully grown, educated, working member of society? On what grounds?

Then by your logic, I should be able to kill my nine year old niece without consequence. She's not a fully grown, educated, working member of society either.

No, that's you putting words in my mouth, not going by my logic.

SoulRaider116 In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-10-20 22:35:33 +0000 UTC]

It seems to fit your logic to me. Only grown, educated, working members of society hold any value, according to what you've said.

Greatkingrat88 In reply to SoulRaider116 [2011-10-20 23:28:42 +0000 UTC]

No, I did not say that. Quit putting words in my mouth. I said the value of a grown, educated individual isn't equal to that of a fetus. I didn't say a fetus had zero value.

SoulRaider116 In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-10-20 23:30:35 +0000 UTC]

If it has value, then you shouldn't kill it. Life shouldn't be thrown away so easily, even that of an unborn child. In my view, the only reason to kill anything is for food, and to protect from immediate and present danger, as in when you're about to be murdered yourself.

Value varies. That's the point I've been trying to make all along. If one considers a woman's right to decide over her own body, the fetus weighs lightly.

No. It's a fetus, without even a nervous system. It does not have the qualifications of a person.

SoulRaider116 In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-10-21 00:30:19 +0000 UTC]

It has a nervous system. That's one of the first things that develops as an embryo.

Greatkingrat88 In reply to SoulRaider116 [2011-10-21 09:40:53 +0000 UTC]

At som point it does develop a nervous system; it can be aborted prior to that. Anyhow, that is not really relevant to my point.

SoulRaider116 In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-10-21 20:55:57 +0000 UTC]

It's not? A fetus most definitely has a nervous system, you keep refering to it as a fetus.

Greatkingrat88 In reply to SoulRaider116 [2011-10-21 22:11:24 +0000 UTC]

Look, my point is that a fetus isn't worth as much as the woman carrying it.

SoulRaider116 In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-10-21 23:25:17 +0000 UTC]

Because a person's a person. We all have the same value, from the moment we are concieved.

SoulRaider116 In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-10-21 23:29:05 +0000 UTC]

Because, it's true. Have you ever looked at an ultrasound? Don't you see how beautiful life is? Then you support going and doing this: [link]

Oh, so that, I think it was an eight week old baby, being slaughtered isn't something you support? And it's not her own body.

She can do whatever the fuck she wants with her body, I don't care.

You are making an appeal to emotion, rather than to logic of any kind, scientific or philosphical. Romanticism is possibly one of the least convincing arguments for anything, I have to say.

And I don't support a gruesome display such as that. I support a woman's right to her own body.

What is it if it's not human, I ask again. Tell me what genetic difference there is?

Greatkingrat88 In reply to SoulRaider116 [2011-10-20 23:25:58 +0000 UTC]

This isn't an issue of genetics. It's a philosophical point; value isn't determined by genetics.

Well, the 500,000 people who march on Washington every January seem to share my philosophy. Which school of philosphy are you talking about? I'm taking a philosphy class right now...so I should be able to do some research on your school of philosophy.

Taking comfort in numbers, I see? Majority- if you even are in it- doesn't equate to being in the right.

Humanism, I suppose.

SoulRaider116 In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-10-21 00:29:52 +0000 UTC]

You suppose? You can't tell me for certain?

And I'm just using the numbers to point out that even if it's an unofficial school of philosophy, it is one.

And in this case, I am right. Because ALL human liife holds equal value.

Greatkingrat88 In reply to SoulRaider116 [2011-10-21 09:42:29 +0000 UTC]

I haven't really given much thought to what school of philosophy I identify with. Humanism comes the closest.

Why would it? Saying "everyone is equal" is just naive.

SoulRaider116 In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-10-21 20:55:11 +0000 UTC]

But they are. It's stupid to say otherwise, and tyranical to act on it. We might not have equal material possessions, but every human life is worth the same.

Greatkingrat88 In reply to SoulRaider116 [2011-10-21 22:13:30 +0000 UTC]

No. Some people are born more intelligent, more beautiful, more aggressive, more skilled... we are not born equal, and we sure as hell aren't all equal throghout our lives. Some people are more succesful than others, better educated, more inventive- in a practical sense, an actual sense, we are not all equal.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

SoulRaider116 In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-10-21 23:24:36 +0000 UTC]

Saying that being pretty somehow makes one person better than another is stupid. We all have the same intrinsic value, and I know some stupid people who are way better people than intelligent jerks.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Greatkingrat88 In reply to SoulRaider116 [2011-10-21 23:29:20 +0000 UTC]

"Intrinsic value" is one of those abstract concepts which have no actual effect on real life. In real life, those who are born smarter, prettier or with leadership qualities are more succesful than those that don't. This should be self evident. How then, can we say that we are all equal in an actual sense?
