Description this is Nero out of the game Devil May Cry 4 on PS3. as i never came into the pleasure of playing this game, i did not even know who i was drawing until my friend told me! nevertheless i am so impressed by the graphic of the recent PS3 games that i can only say, these figures look extraordinary nice!

inbetween i made the observation that i can't draw my portraits "stain-free" and smudging nicely, since the paper and the pencil i use is of a really bad bad quality...i should look forward to changing that, but actually i use my graphic tablet most of the time..

enjoy!

I don't think there's such thing as a "clean" piece when shading in pencil. But for the most part, I think those smudges can work with a piece.

But in my opinion, I think this piece is more than clean enough. Its a pretty nice render.

yep the detail is very good
Too bad you can't really see your awesome drawing, without zooming in!

Try to fix the contrast of the drawing! That usually helps.

I haven't played the game either, but I've seen my brother playing it. I think you actually made him cuter than he is in the game. Very nice drawing.

Very nice, pump up the contrast a bit maybe?

Valesco In reply to Dagan12 [2010-03-14 20:52:53 +0000 UTC]

yep, I'll sort them out a bit more the next time, unfortunately i lighted the pic up via photoshop (since it is a photo of my orginial sheet of paper) and so a lot of shading and light effects are lost...

Understood, have had that problem before also

AprilMcGuire [2010-03-13 19:04:37 +0000 UTC]

lovely pencil work, however, I think it could do with more shading, dark like you did in the collar that'll really make it POP!

hi, thanks so much for the advice, unfortunately my pic doesn't look like the original in here, since i hat to lighten it up via photoshop after digitalizing, cause it is a photography of the original sheet of paper. the whole procedure lighted the pic so much, that i a m frightened you can't see any shades at all anymore.. i really should redo this, then, since i heard it a lot of times by now...but generally, i think i can improve on shading by making them darker...thanks so much!

I'm gonna comment on a newer one now ^^
Very nice, the facial features look pretty good and I really like how you made the hair flow Maybe make it a bit darker? To have some more contrast between the shades. Nice expression too, I like!

this is a good drawing, you have drawn the proportions of the face very well, i think a bit more shading/blending in the hair would make it sit out from the page a bid more.
well done

yay, ok, i'll remind it for my next pieces, actually i've got a problem with that, and maybe you can help me out: this pic is a photo taken from my original (which is quite full with shades and lights) but i had to lighten it up in photoshop after digitalizing, cuz it was sooo heavily dark that it just did not attract anyone's eye. but now the shadings and lights have vanished...do you have any idea how to preserve them during lightning the pic??
thx!

lyzanne In reply to Valesco [2010-03-13 16:40:09 +0000 UTC]

i get the same problem, have to photograph all my work. i was given some advice once, to put a piece of paper/tissue over the flash to soften it a bit. helps to stop the light and shade contrasts being so harsh. i tried it out on 'the red flower' in my gallery and it worked quite well, i think its still a little dark but because there is some impasto in it any lighter and it ruins the photo.
hope that helps

Pretty cool, but maybe more shading in places to add more depth? And have some sort of perspective? (^_^)

Valesco In reply to kuchiki-kikyou [2010-03-12 14:41:14 +0000 UTC]

yeah, the shading just vanished when i lightened the pic via photoshop, cuz it was very dark after the photo of it was taken!
hmm, what exactly do u mean by having perspective?
thx for commenting!

kuchiki-kikyou In reply to Valesco [2010-03-13 02:30:47 +0000 UTC]

Like your shading seems to be a little all over the place, try to picture a light and shade in one direction and stuff, you know what I mean?

Valesco In reply to kuchiki-kikyou [2010-03-13 13:10:07 +0000 UTC]

you mean adding a lightsource via photoshop after finishing and digitalizing the pic?

No like when you're shading with the pencil, I personally prefer traditional pieces without the edits.

I love the detail in the hair, though maybe use a more varied range of shades. Also with the jacket, it ends kind of abruptly, if you slowly shade/fade it out so it doesn't look as though it's just floating there. That's just me being way picky though. It just looks like the drawings needs something a little more to look like a finished piece of art.
