Wide, blue eyes observed the outside world restlessly from the nursery, the kit's thin pelt fluffed up in vain against the biting cold that nipped at his skin like the greedy fangs of a wolf. It had been days.. No, moons, since he last saw a fat, plump piece of prey atop the fresh-kill pile. The warmer days grew even more numbered as they passed, until slowly, the warmth had dwindled to a halting stop. Now, painfully cold weather plagued Groveclan in an endless onslaught, not ending until the bleak days of leaf-bare merged into those of replenished, bright green grass shoots and flowers; New-leaf. Acornkit's eyes trailed upwards to the sky, feelings slightly concerned at the daunting sight of the fat, yellowish clouds that hung in the sky like omens of doom. He opened his mouth slightly, taking in the scents of the air. The atmosphere was thick with moisture, but it wasn't the same as regular rain.. No, it tasted much more frigid and crisp, and almost.. Solid?

Acornkit's eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets in surprise as a fat, white flake fell from the sky.. What was that? He withdrew from the entrance in a defensive manner, the fur on his neck rising in a stiff bristle. Alarm began to set in as the sky darkened, and even more of the frigied flakes pelted the ground. His heart pounded. Is Starclan angry with us? What have we done? A scared whimper barely emitted from the back of his throat as the snowflakes accumulated upon the ground. Gradually as time passed, a thin layer of the strange white stuff coated the ground in a perfect, paper-thin pelt. Then, it came down in blankets. And before he knew it, there was enough that it could've reached at least up to his belly if it weren't for the protection of the nursery. And then it stopped.

Acornkit took a shaky, tentative step forwards into the strange white surface, his gaze filled with the anxiety that warred within his stomach like a bubbling spring. He jerked back. It was freezing! And wet.. It soaked into the fur between his paw pads uncomfortably. But it was rather soft.. He stepped back onto the surface. His gaze glimmered with a newer, curious light, though the anxiety still glimmered. He took another step onto the surface. Before he knew it, he was standing fully unprotected by the nursery walls, his paws sinking into the snow as his body heat thawed the frigid mess. The anxiety began to melt away from his gaze and posture, his trembling now due to the cold rather than his own worrisome thoughts.

He sat on the snow, his eyes widening as he observed the slowly setting sun. The mixture of the sky and sun rays bleached the snow in an array of pink and yellow, their gradients staining the snow in an oddly attractive way. His breath caught in his throat. The sight was blindingly gorgeous, the sun refracting off of the snow in a dazzling show of frigid splendor. It was like he was walking on the sun itself. Acornkit was caught off guard by the sight, freezing up slightly. It was absolutely stunning. He reached out a tentative paw, dabbing at the snow as if he could scoop up the colors within the cusps of his paw pads. But it was a mere illusion, and was no solid color. But Acornkit was satisfied by simply sitting back and observing the show of light, color, and snow. So, waiting for the first clutches of the nighttime, Acornkit watched the sunset until he was ushered back into the nursery. He cast a glance over his shoulder.

Oh, how he would anxiously anticipate the next snowfall..
