Description Oil on canvas board. This year's first portrait class work. I love even the smell of oil paint. Too bad I can't really paint them at home.

Good work I really like the colours of the background but it's too similar to the texture of her blouse I think.

And the smell of oil and terpentine is mmm

jännän melankolinen muotokuva.. värit ja sivellinjälki rentoa ja hengittävää. kokonaisuus toimii loistavasti.
( ja kyllä öljyt tuoksuu ihanalle )

wow this is amazing...the way you incorperated the abstract qualities into the portrait is stunning! my favourite part is the shading on her neck...very well done.

I can't stand the smell of oil paints. *cringes*

Anyway, that was irrelevant. I love how this one's sharp while the one I just commented on had very soft strokes in comparison... it shows that you paint a mood more than a particular style and you don't have issues taking licenses where required. Once again, your colour play fascinates me, I'm infatuated with that one outline of orange. That and the model's expression add a certain, unease to the melancholy.

Noooo...It's not the oil paint, it's the turpentine that gives their smell a bad name.

But thanks for the thoughtful comments

Well turpentine has that nasty smell that never leaves (though I know soooo many people who like the smell of things like turpentine, thinner, glue...). But I also don't like the smell of oil paints, there's something about it that reminds me of being in a very dingy and depressing house. bad memories that have manifested themselves in scent i suppose.

i love the mark making, reminds me of anselmn kiefer a little.

i especially like the use of white on her face and the unorthadox red as shading on the back of her neck.

you captured her expression perfectly.

i miss the smell of oil paint, i adore it, haven't painted for a while *quivers*

Yeah, I like his colors and style. His work seems to border between abstract and representational. Thanks again.

I guess someone said sometime that the color in good oil painting should look so good that it wants to speak to you or that it makes you want to eat it. Don't know why people always complain about the smell of oil paint - it's good, because it reminds me of oil painting, which is a very positive association.

a very great painting. It is certainly interesting to look at due to the orange you used as outline and the blue you used as shade...I like the stokes it makes it become dynamic great work

you have an excellent sense of form, and your strokes are very expressive. my only thought is that the line running from chin to ear looks a bit odd, maybe a bit severe or too strong? just looks unnatural somehow. sometimes the models really have those odd features and painting them true to what you see makes your painting look odd, it's hard to tell.

Thanks Yeah, I can see what you mean, the line did not stand out quite so much. She did, however, have a very strong jaw and broad shoulders - in fact, it was quite difficult not to make her look like man, and I wasn't the only with that problem.

Hyvää menoa, mun täytyykin jossain vaiheessa alkaa kysellä sinulta öljymaalauksesta. Maalit tuli ostettua mutta, no joo kyselen kun on paremmin aikaa..

Sen mitä öljytekniikoista tiedän olen opiskellut enimmäkseen Helsingin kaupungin kirjastoista, sieltä löytyy monta teosta aiheesta. Neuvon toki ilomielin.

Ok, dont i dont get it.

Thanks a lot The green and blue was meant to be an underpainting, but I thought it looked so good I decided to stick to it.
