I've decided to start a comic. Its called 'Citizens and Soldier' and of course, it will be My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic related
Summary: When a threat with power bigger than Princess Celestia and Luna's hangs over Equestria, it is up to an ex-guard, a doctor and his sister and an unwilling Changeling to bring back the only force they could hope would save them all. What is that mysterious force? Why are the Princesses so hopeless against the threat? And what is that ex-guard hiding?
I will be releasing each part of the comic in this way, one panel at a time because it just seems easier and hopefully I won't keep you waiting for long

logically, couldn't they just drape the land attacking in eternal night, causing crops and grass to die thus causing famine, both weakening the government that threatens them, and lowering the morale of the soldiers invading, knowing that their loved ones are no doubt starving to death? Or better yet, if the attacking region was near a coast, then they could probably cause horrible tidal effects by screwing with the moon.

How would that be difficult? I mean they just have to stop the sun in a location that would not shine upon that area. Hell, they would probably freeze to death before they starve to death, but lets just ignore that. All that equestria would need is a massive store of food, assuming that the day/night cycle would screw with the ability to grow crops in equestria, which it probably would

But what if the enemy is technically not from a land the Princesses have control over (like ponies have no control over the Everfree Forest) or that the enemy can simply survive without the sun?

If they can survive extreme colds and a famine, Then bath them in eternal light, causing crops, rivers, and other water sources to dry up, causing things to burn. Luna and Celestia have power over the sun and moon, they basicly have control over life and death for any creature to exist

Okay, I'm pretty sure that they had to rely on their guard and the Elements, not raising the sun or moon to get rid of Discord and the Changelings even through they 'basically have control over life and death for any creature to exist'. Raising the sun or the moon would destroy the land, yes, but it would take months for it to take place and hypothetically the enemy could be someone that adapts really quickly or is not from Equestria like from space or a different dimension. There are ways around absolutely everything because although the Princesses are the most powerful ponies being alicorns and well, themselves, they cannot fight alone and simply do not have the power to do so. If they fought on their own, it would take them a really long time to weaken the enemy by raising the sun or the moon. Extreme colds would mean that they would have to control weather with an extremely powerful spell or be Windigoes. Same goes for heat. Like I said, its not that easy if you don't know all the facts. Also, Celestia was beaten by Queen Chrystalis, so she is not that all powerful as it may seem.

What is the invading force, and are they a conventional enemy, as in, are they similar to ponies or other 'normal' animals native to equestia?
