This started as just playing with the background.. and then it turned into this. This took a very long time, spread over about a week due to change in horse stock and lighting and removing branches from the entire upper left part area of the picture.. I wont even go into detail on how long the transformation of the horse took. All I have to say is, I know there are many mistakes, but I'm rather proud since I've never added markings like this before and I've also never changed a background so extensively. Critiques are very welcome.

sometimes. sometimes i smudge, and sometimes i do both

Well, basically all I do is draw out the shape of it, then I add the details in with individual strands. I start with a dark color, then work my way up to a highlighting color. I usually have about 5-6 different colors in my hair..
so what i'm saying is, I dont think you'd need a tablet to use the technique? hahaha
