Description
Being the steampunk- and clock/pocketwatch-lover that I am, I did this for a class project. I wanted to focus on the inner workings of a clock (or pocketwatch, in this case) instead of the time-telling aspect (something I otherwise focus a lot on in my art-- I'm big on keeping track of time). This is just a cell phone picture, so it's hard to see the glaze differentiation, but it's there. It looks perfectly rustic and happy. The chain /is/ functional (the links are separate despite the glazework) and the gears are each securely fastened, but individually crafted and glazed.Related content

Thank you very muchly! I wish the colors were more visible, they much more vibrant-- I'll have to re-photograph it when I get a better camera this fall.
(Haha, I LOVE the chain, it's my favorite! Thank yooou <3)

Now you should make one in which the gears move.

Haha, I wish I had the time and resources to do more ceramics work, particularly more steampunk stuff. I might get involved with my local art center this summer and be able to do that, but if nothing else, I may have access to the clay studio for my senior art portfolio work in the fall.
Maybe I /will/ make things with moving gears

you totally should! the gears in your watch were very nice, you did a good job, but I think adding something to it to make it more complex (next time) would just be the amazing frosting on the awesome cake.

Well... I did what I could for the assignment, time, and resources I had available then. I didn't want to make something overly complex this time around, but certainly for next time I'll keep it in mind :3

<-- this guy works a month on a project, tosses it 3 days till deadline, and puts in a 50 hour weekend to make a new one.

Hahaha, that's me too, although I tend to rework something entirely rather than simply throw it out. But I feel your pain. :3

Wow, this is so awesome! I love all the gears and the chains are actually separate! That's amazing!

Thank you It was so fun/such a pain to make, but I'm pretty pleased with it-- especially how the chain turned out. I didn't think I'd be able to get away with glazing it but somehow keeping the links separate/not having it stick to the kiln shelf. Magic! 8D
