An Earth Day deviationVisit Aral Beach, the largest beach in the world! Bask in the sun amid breathtaking archaeological treasures. Superb travel packs include air transportation for today's new russian and international economic elite!
The Aral Sea used to be our planet's 4th largest inland sea before the Soviet Union started draining it in the sixties. It's one of the world's most striking environmental tragedies.

You do svelte figures so well. Makes me think a bit of Manara.

Thanks! I'm amazed every time I see images from the Aral Sea: it looks so surreal, seeing those ships in the middle of what is now a desert...

I like the soft, washed style you have and how you rescue the subjects from drowning by lining them markedly.

awesome picture!
Yeah, I remember hearing about that back in high school a little bit and then a yr or two ago, I saw something on like PBS or Discovery Channel or something that talked a little about it and how it was just a drop compared to it's former self and how in a few more yrs, if this keeps up, it'll be all gone and just a desert....sad...made me cry...on days I'm really emotional, almost any tragedy makes me cry....and what i think is funny is that all the new globes I've seen lately still have it as it's orignal size?!?!?!?! I wonder if they are even updating maps and text books for the schools? Doubt it though....

I didn't know they were still publishing maps and globes with the sea's original outline! It sounds like a wonderful application of 'truthiness', Colbert would be proud!

As you said they started killing this ecosystem way back in the red communist days. Dont know if they have been more blind eyed to nature then they are now.
The earthen colours reflect very well the message of your theme. It also looks well on your bikini lady, also with the beach that far away she looks a bit lost in her outfit.

I remember seeing a documentary on it maybe 15 years ago, not long after the USSR has crumbled, which had shocked me... I had assumed things would have gotten better since then but a more recent report I saw in the last year or so showed me it's quite the opposite... The sea is down to about 20% its original volume (and still fading away)!
