The pearl(a boy) is a specific defect which is why he's shorter than any other pearls, the peridot fell in love with his imperfections. The peridot(a girl) is also a defect before she even met him, softer than any other peridots and usually tried to do her own thing. as they both stumbled upon each other, it was just that feeling of needing to be next to each other. These 2 happend after Steven softened the diamonds.
