Description
Second Portrait!
Seems like my reflections on my first shading exercise carried some fruits! At least I can see some improvements here when it comes to keeping the highlighted and shadowed parts of the face separated by forcing myself to stay within the value spectrum I blocked out on my underlay sketch first before defining the forms with value transitions like the reflected light you can see on the cheekbone, the eyebrow or the lower part of the chin where the light ist reflected from the throat up to the cheekbone. I made sure the values of the direct light stayed brighter than the reflected light and while i painted the core shadows with darker values than the drop shadows which you can see by comparing the values of the dropshadow of the nose with the core shadow on the upper part of the cheekbone.
By stayin strictly within the values I blocked out before the edges appear sharper and less messy unlike in my first try which I feel like it makes it easier to observe and gives a feeling of control.
Still, i feel like its very cartoonish and looks a bit unfinished. It might be because the contrasts are pretty low - aaaaand probably because I was simply too lazy to add some more details haha
