Didi, Protector of the Feelings, to the rescue! FYI, if Didi calls you a "Stinker", that's her cussing at you.
While Gogo is off turning a few minor comments into an existential meltdown (as folks do sometimes), Andy's still pretty cavalier about it.
Last update for a few days while I hit the road, but much more on the way!

But seriously, I've been reading Bomango for a last few days [<-- yup, newbee detected] and been trying to solve some sort of a storyline. These 'time jumps' are making my brain ache(
Although, I REALLY love this comic, I find it hard to read (partially, because I'm not a native Eng speaker so I use Google...sometimes. And it's hard to read long and complicated conversations, which upsets me( )

I know that feeling. Β My grandma was once so angry at me she called me "dummy". Β For her, that's equivalent to calling me a....don't even really have words for it, honestly. Β Suffice to say it's enough of a "cuss word" for her that I felt terrible for the rest of the day, and some of the next.

I have officially decided I love your characters. Gogo and her manner of speaking, (not to mention the awesome speech bubble with a sword through it in the previous panel) Didi and her obvious brains... The kid I haven't seen much yet (working my way through your stuff backwards, always confusing), but he seems interesting enough. the girls seem to have far more personality, even I could seriously see myself interacting with any of them.

Oh well, maybe he is just giving her the benefit of the doubt and assuming that even at her worst she won't do anything too insane.
But in all seriousness I do want to raise a concern this comic has given me.
Anytime more content for Bomango comes along I'm a happy guy, this I assure you. Endearing character(s) is(are) endearing.
That said, since the pace of the series creation is set over the course of a long time there are inevitably some character changes/evolution that need to be addressed for the sake of consistency.
Here we see an unprecedented event of Gogo getting sucker punched. Gogo has been teased by Andy about her appearance before and taken it with due poise. That type of tomfoolery is what makes them an amusing duo. However, this time is clearly different.
Gogo is seemingly lacking her usual momentum of personality. She is actually derailed as though surprised by Andy's calculatedly indifferent response that was little more than a blatant(?) attempt to troll her as per usual. (Admittedly, in an unusually cold and deadpan manner.) The Gogo I think I know would be peeved but this is nothing new to her. So why such a different reaction?
Gogo discovers that she is not in line with expected social norms, in this case for aesthetics, and cares all of a sudden? Yea, that doesn't sound right. She strikes me as a bit of a non-conformist, a prideful free spirit. Even if her ultimate goal was to be attractive to Andy, her ego is too big to allow her to consider that the problem is on her. She'd think something is wrong with Andy and society at large and, using classic Gogo logic, seek to rectify everything else and not change herself. These actions are reminiscent of those of a typical (read: boring) school girl with low self-esteem and self-image insecurities (thanks media).
Wow, reading that last sentence it's hard to believe who I am talking about.
Now if you have an outline of character traits and character arcs that you are jealously hoarding to yourself, that this all fits into, then great. I am not fool enough to pass judgment on an incomplete picture. For all I know, Gogo's self assured poise and devil may care attitude is all a facade. I would not be surprised if this will all make sense in retrospect. I'm not concerned that we are seeing new things in Bomango, rather, I think that is a good thing.
No, my concern is the proximity this has with the whole bs "Mary Sue" thing. I doubt it, but I just want to be sure that this is not a knee jerk reaction and was a carefully considered, internally consistent development.

Whew! That's a lot to digest, but I think I understand your interpretation.
This little arc is--in part, let me emphasize--quasi-autobiographical. There are a lot of times when I'm riding a high artistically, and then either have a moment of clarity that suddenly casts everything into doubt, or someone points out that I'm not quite as able/talented/what-have-you as I may let myself think. Here on dA, it's all too easy to let glowing comments fool you into a sense of self-satisfaction that creates a bubble that can be easily popped.
Usually I'm realistic about it, but sometimes realizing you're not the world-beater your ego tells you you are can throw you off your game. Here, I've used Gogo as a proxy for that. 9 times out of 10 she would shrug it off, but I think she's capable of being wounded or questioning things from time to time.
But for the context of the story/characters, I think this offhanded set of remarks by Andy comes as a challenge to her, meant as a half-serious ribbing but interpreted as him chiding her for being "less" than she assumed she was. I think Andy is comfortable enough with her that he believes he can mess with her like this, but Gogo, with her childish need to be acknowledged as constantly awesome has taken this with more thought and umbrage than a rational person would.
And besides, it's fun when she overreacts to little things
And wow, I really ran with that. My two cents have a way of turning into dollars. I'll just continue this arc and we'll see what happens.

Glad my fears were unfounded. It's just a pet peeve of mine to see artists heckled into doing something they wouldn't normally, it's unnecessary.

Well, I try not to be heckled into anything, heh...But I'm slowly becoming aware that people have memories when it comes to these characters, and so I'm trying to balance between offering new insights while honoring the stuff people see as sort of canon.
And of course trying to push myself more. I tread the same water enough as it is

I like the character development going on here, Andy actually being less afraid of Gogo, probably to the detriment of the world! How will he learn his lesson? (Probably the moon will explode)
