Description
Hello again! So hey! I've been away from dA for a bit, walking the earth, getting into adventures n'shit, riding historical on the Fury Road. Which is all well and good, but let's get back at it here.
As you may or may not know, my comic "series" here on dA, Bomango, has been something of an ongoing experiment and--for lack of a better term--"creative sandbox" for many years, during which I've made jokes, characters, stories, weird stuff, boring stuff, occasionally great stuff (i hope, anyway), and overall, it's been super fun. It's also been super confusing for people, because it's not REALLY a proper "Story", and certainly not organized or told as such. Which had left me in the awkward position of making a comic and thinking to myself "what if this were a comic?"
That's a weird place to be.
Anyway, I'm going to be answering that question: What if this story were ACTUALLY A DAMN STORY?
Towards that end, here's a little bit of production reference art that SOMEONE ALREADY POSTED SOMEWHERE (cough cough) with a bit of the cast from future works. (Still in progress adding to this lineup as of this posting, that's why there're folks still missing).
Left to right on the lineup:
1. "Regular" Gogo Bomango: Average meal size, no extra cost. This is your starting Gogo package. Upgrades optional.
2. Didi Bomango: Buy one Gogo, and mail in for your free Didi at no extra (financial) cost!
3. "Deluxe" Gogo Bomango: Like it or not, your Gogo is now upgraded. Deal with it, and adjust door frames/reinforce furniture accordingly.
4. Andy Fisher: THE HERO OF OUR--wait, is he? Maybe...wait, no, he's saying he doesn't care for labels. Fine. Okay, anyway, he's kinda short, and the world around him ain't getting any smaller either.
5. Pablo: The wee blue beastie. HAMS.
6: Safara: Serious, fiery business. Or smouldering business. But serious business, and usually at high temperatures.
7: Titus: LARGE business. VERY LARGE. YUUUGE. You THINK you've seen LARGE, but you don't even KNOW. The very essence of David Rydering (BIG McLARGEHUGE!)Β Β
8: Leesha Fisher: Andy's cousin, redheaded but significantly less fiery business than #6. Likes to judge others, so she'll have a field day if she looks to her right.
9: Cora May Melikian: Wicked eyebrows, wicked business acumen, pathological bureaucratic sensibility, and a love for shades of purple.
Well! I doubt that explained much of anything, but...enjoy! More to come, much more

Andy: "What the...?!"
Gogo: "I know, right?"
Andy: "But... how does she speak the beeps?!"
Didi: "Specialized organ, dear. My own design. I may be many things, but a potty-mouth will never be one of them."

Is Titus height based on Robert Wadlow (Is he 8'11"?), but healthy...and muscular? Is his height caused by a mutation or something else? How tall can humans become in your world/IP?
I like big characters and am just curious ( ΰ² ΝΚ ΰ² )

I might be misremembering but pre-Didi Gogo was a bit of an inventor. Did separating them allow their respective bodies to specializeΒ and free up the energy to their traits?

Can I just say, having read through this ENTIRE Bomango sub-gallery, that of all of the adjectives I'd use to describe this comic, "boring" has never once been one of them. This has been a sheer joy to read from start to (nearly) current. And while yes it may not follow a traditional linear method of storytelling, in my humble opinion I think that actually kind of works to its advantage; it feels different, but coherent. There are storylines in there, and they are linked. I for one don't really care that there's not a definite "beginning" point, that we're kind of dropped in en medias res. And actually, if you look back, this story actually *does* have a notable structure, events do happen in a appreciable order; there was a time when Didi was "born", Gogo has changed emotionally over time, we've gotten a strong sense of her backstory, we've even seen some fleshing out of the side characters, Hector & Andy's mom being the most notable. I really think you're not giving yourself enough credit when you say "This story needs more story." You've got a story here, mate, a damn good one. No work necessary, you can leave it as-is and build on it just as you have done, and I'm sure all of your fans, myself most certainly included, will follow you to Hell & back, we would.

Thanks for the input
I've gone back and forth with "this story needs more story" quite a bit. Your viewpoint here is totally valid, as is the viewpoint of readers who get a little confused at the seeming randomness of story structure within the gallery
The thing is, my dA gallery is a place where I've shared art over the years as I've learned stuff, generated ideas, practiced, interacted with other artists and watchers, etc. it's been great, and it continues to be all those things. And I've put together a lot of things I like.
So what I mean with "more story" is simply this: I'm doing a story with my Bomango characters. One that starts somewhere under fresh circumstances, goes places, and makes persistent choices. Not as a means to backfill any missing canon, or to string together various threads that already exist, but to embark on the challenge of committing to something more persistent that presents both limitations as well as whole new opportunities.
...while still doing funny strips and stuff because I can't help myself

I'm going to admit, I kinda miss "basic" Gogo.Β There's just something about a person that's crazy inhumanly strong but doesn't look like they are.Β Also, her old hair style just said "Don't give a fuck", which kinda fits her imo.

Can't get a read on Titus. Is he super chill and relaxed? His outfit certainly suggests he is. A floral shirt and sandals? The man's clearly not going for the "dressed to kill" look.
But rolling his shoulders forward and clenching fists tell a different story.
Whatever. I'm just going to assume he's on holiday somewhere tropical and cracking walnuts in either hand because he can.

Silly question. Are Didi and Gogo twins? They have the same face, height, and body (referencing the "Regular" Gogo). Or maybe this lineup thing is just a more simplified drawing so they just look very similar. I've been following your work for awhile but may have missed some reference to this...

ellojello123 In reply to Slantindicular [2016-03-02 20:46:41 +0000 UTC]
It's in some of his first posts with the "modern" Gogo. Gogo "decided" to self replicate, Didi emerged from her ribcage. So she is closer to a clone than a twin. After this he evolved Gogo into the giantess she is. Though, Van Heist has a pretty weak relationship with consistent cannon so maybe he has decided to change this bit, but I haven't seen any content to suggest that.

Slantindicular In reply to ellojello123 [2016-03-03 01:11:25 +0000 UTC]
Yes well, I have not been following Van Heist long enough to even be aware of any of that. So thanks for filling in the details. All I know is Gogo starts off normal sized, then she eats four dozen eggs every morning to help her get large. I did wonder why Didi was not in any of the Gogo backstory that I have read, and Adam-and-Eve style replication would certainly explain it.

I'm fairly new too, can you link to whatever backstory you are reading? Β Most of what I've seen has had Didi involved.
I started reading Bomango on Funnyjunk, actually. Β A person over there went through and put the Bamango work into a semblance of order and uploaded it all. Β Link if you want to read it in order:Β funnyjunk.com/channel/bomango Β (just go to the last page of the "newest uploads" in this channel to start at post 1).
