i went around the other weekend archiving some of the signs I've done at my shop. The ones I could remember anyways. And of those I selected a couple to post here in a sort of collage of stuff, instead of individually, cos I'm more about drawn stuff than I am my signs.Anyways these are all routered signs, carved out of SignFoam (dense blocks of foam, like synthetic sandstone) and hand painted. This is my day job and it's a lot of fun, unless you'd rather be drawing stuff or playing video games, which I also like. But I get to work alone 90% of the time and it's nice to see my work all over the place when I go out. So yeah.
I don't get to do a lot of the actual designs, most of the time I just carve and paint what the graphic designer sends me. so the actual finished work I'll just say is copyright 2005-2006 Marshall Sign, LLC

man this looks like a sweet gig! I work with a chef in a small cafeteria in a factory. we serve about 200-300 employees a day Breakfast and Lunch. the cool thing is that the chef trusts me enough to do my own thing from day to day so long as I get the basics done. so I know what you mean when you get to see your own work stand on its own in the public eye... so to speak.

well, by and large, my business is about as down-home a job as i've ever had, since the farm...hehe i'm glad you think they're nice

true, that...but i suppose i'd be pretty burned out if i had to design all of them....from what i understand, that involves a lot of banter with customers, and that's not my style. As it is, i just deal with the final product, and that's alright with me

Thats really cool to see what you working on, before and after you post your midwork day journal entries X] . They are all really nice looking. That would be a cool job to have, better than secretary-ing.

my sister is a secretary-ish person, and it sounds like loads of fun! .... .....okay I couldn't even keep a straight face on that one.
It sure beats factory work, and it's way more rewarding to point at a sign and say "I made that" than it is to look at one of a billion plastic fuel tanks on a lawn mower and say "I made that and 1,000,000,000 others just like it at the factory!" Not everyone can do this job well, and so I feel proud of it (usually).

the pub sign was a blast...especially when i went and drank there...it's literally on the city docks, right on the water. Fun stuff.
it's not a full-on art job, but it's definitely more fun than factory work, and I sort of pace myself too. It's a great way to unwind (when no one's breathing deadlines down your neck
