Higher ResolutionNon-Rara ponies coming soon, but she's my go-to music pony.
Trying to up the speed on my painting since taking too long on each piece is causing some problems (I think). I miss a lot of mistakes when I get too used to staring at a single painting, and I'm noticing that a number of my older pictures have some pretty notable errors that slipped by me in this way. And that effect lasts for a long time, which is problematic because now I'm always scared that I might've messed something up without realizing and I can't even see the mistake to fix it (at least during the painting phase). Not much I can do months after I put it out, but I'm hoping that being a bit faster will help me to better myself in that regard.

Ahh that face, there is no imaginable way to find fault in such perfection that is Rara--see I got it right this time. Those beautiful eyes and happy little muzzle makes me want to be happy. >w<
I totally relate with you, it's so difficult to determine if you're ready to move on to the next phase of the process. I would say that it's my sketch phase that really worries me, and having to fix it in the painting phase is a lot of work. Honestly, I think your painting skills are unmatched--but to be fair, it's hard for us to see all the errors you see.
You still did amazing work though, any real deviation I may see are just part of stylizing. With how unique you are, it just shows how much dedication you have to make it work your own way. ^w^ ~<333

I feel ya- the sketch phase is one of the most difficult parts for me as well, since my drawing skill itself really isn’t all that special- the painting stage is where things start coming to life for me, but having to fix issues in it is certainly a hassle.

Don't worry about mistakes too much friend. That's what art is all about! I think it's good that you're noticing them. Live and learn, and keep pushing yourself to be better!
And I'll try to always be here to give you advice too. So keep drawing and you'll keep improving. No one is perfect, but you my friend, are a fantastic artist.

As for this drawing, the criticism I have is that the top of her mane looks a little bit squared/flat compared to how you've drawn her in the past. Just seems a bit off in my eyes.
That, and her closed eye also feels a little wrong. I don't quite know how to put it. Like she's trying too hard to wink and squinting that eye? (Like basically how I wink because I'm terrible at it)
Those things aside though, I think this is a wonderful piece, and I think you should be more lenient on yourself. Drawing is fun, and we all love the work you do.

Yeah, adding depth to the mane can be a bit tough for me, so I’ll keep that in mind next time.
And I see what you mean about the closed eye- I was having a bit of trouble placing it, and it was overall being a big pain. I’ll watch out for that next time.

Uh...while I understand wanting to get better I'm pretty sure you're the only one who really notices? I mean all your work is so amazing. So what if there's imperfections? Life is full of imperfections. It's part of what makes your art feel realer. Keep pushing to be better but don't kick yourself over it. Every painting is a stepping stone along the path to the next plateau. Embrace them.

Haha, don’t worry, I’m not kicking myself over mistakes. I know that having imperfections in artists’ work is almost always the case, but part of growing as an artist is finding the trouble spots and making them better. I’m certainly looking to embrace the mistakes I make, but afterwards I’m going to learn from them and not make the same ones again in the future.

Awesome. Yknow-I looked back at your very first upload and holy moly...you've come a LONG way and gotten SO GOOD.
...I'll be honest it's made me dust off my tablet. I'd given up on art-all the joy had gone out of it but between seeing your progress, my advice to you (which I guess was aimed at myself, too) and your reply...I want to draw again. I want to get better like you have. Some day I want to be as good as you are now and like you're going to I eventually want to get better.
Thank you for helping me fight art block and draw again after over two years of not doing so. It means so much to me. I wish you all the best I really do. Thank you for your words and for your wonderful art (especially the ponies <3).

And that's amazing! I'm so glad to hear that you're gonna pick up art again and that you have a clear goal in mind. That's how I was feeling when I started taking art seriously too, and that's how I'm still feeling now- as long as you have that drive to better yourself as an artist, there's no limit to how far you can take it. Don't ever believe that it's all about being born with artistic talent or something of the like- time, practice, and motivation can make anyone great. Just gotta believe in yourself and not give up

Also if I may say, good work always needs it's time, but the more you do something, the better and faster you get at it. Only there is always a certain amount of time you need, if you want to make something good. So take that time, it'll be worth it.

You’re definitely right about that- I’m certainly not looking to sacrifice quality for speed, but I think it’d be healthy for me to find that sweet spot between rushing art out and stressing over every last detail.

There's actually a few characters I'd like to see again before the show ends probably with season 9 in 2019 tbh.
I think music is one of the most genius inventions of human kind^^ I'm currently saving up for those new Sennheiser HD 820. They are expensive af but good headphones like those are for a VERY long time^^
It is certainly difficult finding that sweet spot, but I'm glad you at least know the risks of what can happen, if you rush art. Looking forward to your future projects

I've actually never been to a con, though I'd love to go someday (there's a small possibility that I'll go to BronyCon this year, but it depends on a lot of things).
Though If I ever do end up attending one, I'd probably just be a regular visitor rather than a vendor, haha.

Yeah, 2000$ *caugh* plus you want a decant DAC for them too xD But good audio equip lasts you for a long, LONG time^^ But you don't need to spend much money for something good, my HyperX CloudII headset has also great sound and I paid like 80€ for it. Ok you do want some decent audio in your PC. But you'd be surprised how much of a difference even decent headphones make. You start to recognize things in songs that just weren't there before, same for games xD
My first Brony Convention was actually last years BronyCon. I was visiting a friend who lived nearby plus it was kind of a small dream I had to go there in cosplay. It was certainly lots of fun and I've never ever visited so many panels in my life. And the vendor hall, OH MY CELESTIA - so big and so much awesome stuff *-* I've bought a ton of prints and commissions for my appartment^^ And yeah, I can understand you. Being a vendor costs money, you don't really get to see much from the convention as you are at your booth all the time AND it can be pretty stressful too^^'
As for GalaCon, it's pretty much set. I've reserved a hotal plus bought a Bizam ticket. So it's all rdy to go
