I'm partway through watching Beast Wars for the second time, and felt strangely compelled to draw one of the bots as a human (sort of). It's a bit of digital painting painting practice, too, since that's something I'd really like to get better at.Also inspired by ~fayrenpickpocket 's gorgeous Transformers portraits from a different series.
By the way, I'd love to check out more Transformers series, but there are so many that I don't know where to start! Can anyone recommend other TF shows with a similar quality of character development and humor?

In terms of quality of writing and animation in TF cartoons, my top six would be:
Beast Wars
Beast Machines
Prime
G1
Prime Wars Trilogy
Robots in Disguise (the sequel to Prime)

Transformers Prime has a good balance of humor and serious plot. The characters have a lot of personality to them even if the series seems a bit on the short side. Btw, very nice concept for Dinobot.

Hmm. I see someone already recommended TF: Animated--very good.
TF: Prime is actually pretty up there, too. (Knock Out <3) It's a bit more on the serious side than animated, probably closer to Beast Wars. I've enjoyed both seasons so far & looking forward to the Beast Hunters season 3.
But if you really just want to laugh, I'd dig through G1 episodes. They're so bad/random it's hilarious. XD

Neat! I saw the first couple episodes of TF: Prime, and it seems like just the sort of thing I was looking for. <3 Yay for good drama/humor balance! I'll definitely check out TF: Animated too.

Yup. Animated leans more toward the humor side, and Prime more toward Drama, but they've both got their highlights.
But Prime has Knock Out. So, it wins. <3 XD

I liked Transformers: Animated a lot. It does have that bit of humour. Heck, Weird Al voices a guest character a few times.
Transformers: Energon is funny too, but for different reasons (i.e. it's sooo bad). You could make a drinking game with it... take a shot each time someone says "Energon". You'll be dead drunk before the end of an episode, I promise.

lol yes - I have tried to watch other cartoons about Transformers, but without him it's not the same (for me, anyway). That's why I can't recommend you...
