Description
He wants it reallyyyyyy badlyyyy. My first assignment for my Intro to Illustration class! We had to uh..pick a topic, either an eye, sun, or apple. I did apple and..came up with this haha. I was gonna do an apple under the ocean whilst a school of fish pass on by, but due to my insane fish phobia I couldn't stand looking up reference much longer jhgdsgsd
But LOOK!! Something traditional for once. We have drawings like these due weekly I believe, so um..I might be uploading them, depending on if I like them or not haha.
This was done on Bristol board with prismacolor markers and a um..micron pen.

Best B&W I've seen in a long time. It's so well made that I almost see colours that isn't there.

see, don't you think you cna make it farther with this kind of thing and not big hair candy colored 'dogs'? I don't even see that kind of thing on stationary
one can make 'cute animal' character drawings and make it work, without poof hair, nose rings and what not.

I like this, it's a bit different but still very you. The way you added in texture with the shading is very well done.

There seems to be something...odd going on with the shading under the left eye [as we see it]
In that area it looks completely computer-generated. Are you covering up a mistake you made on the original or something?
Also, you need to work on your integration of the light source. It appears to be coming at the apple from three separate angles, and all of them are incongruous with the light on the leaves and the wolf(?) thing.
I'm just saying.

Yeah, I messed up on the original so I went in and tried fixing that. O:
Alright, I'll keep that in mind c8 I'm a little rusty with my traditional media so I tend to forget even some of the most important things, such as light source. Thanks for your input!

Oh wow a grayscale marker drawing? You know.... I've totally never thought of that xD Maybe it's cuz I associate markers with really bright colors? lol i dunno xD
Anyway it looks awesome! That's one spiffy looking apple 0:

Lol, personally I enjoy the greyscale prismas to the colored ones. I only use the color prismas to aid with my watercolor stuff. You should give them a try sometime!
Thank you c:

Actually...I don't think I even have any gray prismas xD but I have copics though. I don't really like the prismas colors much either really. They are usually really bright and dark so I don't use them much xD
I'll hafta try it sometime with my copics though x3

YAY. You're taking Illustration at RISD right? My mom's making me look at other schools haha, and I'm thinking about looking into Risd maybe, it's one of my options. It depends on how good they are with scholarships and financial aid though. If they're better than Ringling's I may be able to go! O:
Thank you! c:

IceandSnow In reply to Vanimute [2010-01-24 21:59:55 +0000 UTC]
I will sooon! We declare our majors soon but we officially start classes with them in sophomore year. BUT YEAHH ILLUSTRATION <3
Aww, sadly what I've seen/heard about RISD's scholarships is that it's not very easy to get one. I'm pretty sure they have financial aid if you qualify for it, but I didn't, so the only thing you can get is a merit-based scholarship... and from what I've seen it's next to impossible to get a merit-based scholarship from them. xD
I MAY BE WRONG... but that's the impression I have about it at RISD. It's definitely the biggest downside of going here. SO EXPENSIVE D:

Aw see that's awesome, I wish we did something like that!
FFFF that just goes to show you that all art schools are expensive. :/ Ringling doesn't even give out scholarships, they give you like..this tiny financial package and that's about it. It's not worth much at all. I just thought that maybe even if all of the good art colleges are expensive, there may be one with better financial aid and what not. Ahhh well I'll just have to keep looking. q__q

IceandSnow In reply to Vanimute [2010-01-25 00:17:03 +0000 UTC]
Awww really, Ringling too? D:
I DO know that SCAD and MICA give out scholarships a lot more (I have friends at both schools. A friend at SCAD actually has a full ride scholarship, entirely merit based, so it's definitely possible!)
Kinda wish I'd looked at other schools just considering the money issue. Other than that I'm really happy with RISD though, we have great professors and I've learned a lot just in the first semester. And I'm SO excited to start illustration stuff, as I've heard we have a great program in that major.
But yeah, good luck!!
