One thing about abstract art that I have noticed over the years, Ann, is that the palette of colours used has a tremendous influence on the visual effect and mood. The underlying reason is that in our daily lives we are used to a "normal" palette of greens, browns, greys, ochres, enlivened by prominent colours such as reds and blues. These all occur with a sort of "normal" frequency and we spot something unusual because the colours are outwith that normal expectation - adverts are a good example. With abstract art, there is no reason at all to stick with any normal palette or any normal frequency of colour usage. So, developing your own palettes that are meaningful and coherent (even if totally random) is a key feature of successful abstract work. Although applied to fractals with high structure, Coco's (kayandjay100 ) palettes are very good examples of coherent colour schemes. I recall UF and Apophysis have very good palette editors such that you can build and store your own schemes. So, with this image a more subtle palette might bring out the contrasts in line and shape more effectively. Palettes are a huge business!

Thanks David. I was surprised to see colours in this that I had no idea were there until I uploaded to DA. Certainly not all complimentary colours. This has happened before. Strange but true. (I do have a very up to date monitor and I use Photoshop CC). I did try a more subtle blue effect, but when I asked someone for a second opinion, they preferred this one. Maybe I should have gone with the other I'm not really happy with the effect now it is uploaded - ah well. OH. BTW this isn't a fractal. I created this with photoshop, layer blending and filters.

Yep - difficult to know how to build up abstract works even without the problem of palettes. I do a lot behind the scenes but don't post them. I never feel happy with them. I'm probably more in tune with abstracted images - taken shots but using a moving camera for example.
Anyway, I'm so busy at the moment with house renovations and house selling, I don't have much time to think.

Thanks Chas. Yes, it's heating up but not as bad up here in the tropics as it is 1200 miles south, where Bronwyn is. They had a really bad heatwave I'd love to send some heat your way

You're most welcome - I can imagine the temps vary quite a bit from region to region - it's very much like that in the U.S. Well, I hope the weather gets more moderate for Bron... and thanks for the thought ~

We just get temps averaging around 32 in summer. Often the "feels like" temp can be 10 degrees more because of the humidity after the rain. the humidity isn't too bad at the moment. Thank goodness for pools and airconditioning
