Description
“I heed not that my earthly lotHath little of earth in it.
That years of love have been forgot
In the hatred of a minute.
I mourn not that the desolate
Are happier, sweet, than I.
But that YOU sorrow for MY fate,
Who am a passer-by.”
-Edgar Allan Poe
I love Poe’s works, and when I read “The Phantom of the Opera” for the first time, one of my favorite parts was during the Masquerade Ball when Erik(the Phantom) comes dressed as the Red Death from Poe’s “Masque of the Red Death”.
Getting back to the poem above, after reading it again, I felt that it really showed parts of who Erik was as a person, particularly his feelings about how he treats both himself and others, as well as how others treat him.
Erik/the Phantom belongs to Gaston Leroux
Art belongs to me.
