Description Would you believe me if I said that this looks much better in person?

A leetle bit of art and an experiment, like usual. I used a bit of interference paint on the star mists and on some areas on the wolf, and it didn't scan very well at all! Oh well. The paint is pretty pointless though it is kinda cool when it shimmers in the light. I also used some guoache, goosh, whatever, that works much better than gel pen for tiny highlights.

This drawing is so cliche, and a poorly executed cliche at that. I didn't intend for this piece to end up like this but it did. Before it had even less story than it does now, so I suppose I don't mind. Many times, when drawing, the piece will take over and direct itself. This was just a profile of a wolf. Then, it became a piece of solitude. And last, it became an ethereal entity, a wolf god, taking a moment to think, wonder, or pause before moving on to bigger and better things than stardust. I didn't know that this would happen! It just did! Yet another wonderful thing about art. It's a chaos that seems like nothing until the final product emerges, and all the different facets of the evolution from the chaos can be seen. Or, at least, from the artist's view, and maybe to the viewer as well. It makes a piece seem more layered.

Speaking of layers, this was done in ink, marker, colored pencil, and some paint for accents on Mohawk paper and measures 3.5 by 2.5 inches (This an ACEO).

gorgeous drawing. its truely amazing. this something i would see in an art show. mostly because you really went outside the box with it. i think the dark blue sky really emphasizes the wolf.

I love the almost sketchiness of the picture!! It seems somewhat impressionistic and dreamlike. It's as if you were capturing the brief moment that the wolf stoppped to pause in front of you before he slipped back into the moonlit shadows.

Dammit, I am soooo sad I didn't win this on E-bay! You have NO idea how charmed I was by this little piece in person. Had I been home when the auction ended I might have gotten it. SIGH. Oh well.

Auh yeah I saw and was kinda bummed. If I'd known you were going to bid, I would have encouraged you to bid last minute. I am pretty amazed it went for so much though!

Oh I would believe you because such things have happened to me- however, this is still very gorgeous and captures the wolf perfectly. So gorgeous. So very gorgeous.

Beautiful image. And you know, cliches are OK. They usually get to be cliches because they're ideas that people like, and that's no bad thing.

hard to believe you could cram so much refined detail in such a tiny area o_o;, amazing.

Don't you do the same? ;3 It's easy with a 005 Micron pen! The rest is all faked with marker layers and some pencil tinting that doesn't obliterate the ink lines.

haha I dunno I don't count my art XD...plus I haven't really attempted to do a colored piece quite that small, most of what I do is small pencil work...I really wouldnt have thought this was marker and pencil...looks like watercolor o_o. What kind of markers do you use??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vantid In reply to balaa [2006-08-28 19:52:00 +0000 UTC]

Prismacolors! When you layer them together over and over, the paper gets wet and the pigment bleeds everywhere like watercolor. Also, lighter colors bully around darker colors because the solvent in the markers dissolves outward from the point, so you can sorta erase out darker colors. I think this is trye with any art marker brand, but I don't know for certain.

What you stated in the description is wonderfully true.

I actually like how this turned out. The way you can see the original ink/sketch job behind the colors reminds me a bit of James Gurney's work (I hope that isn't an insult. :c ), and the blue hues on the fur from the moon are gorgeous.

I was like, James Gurney....James Gurney, who is that? So i looked it up and DUH it's James Gurney! No I am not insulted at all! I don't insult easily...usually. Thanks so much for your comment!
