Archie’s car is sometimes in such a state that you can’t really repair it— you have to perform triage, just so it can make it through the next few days before it decides to break down again. Fortunately, Betty has been under its hood more than a few times…

Inspired by the recent work of a local artist on one of the variant covers of Archie Comics’ new Betty & Veronica series, I just had to do this piece. The fact that the book is also written and drawn by Adam Hughes, one of my biggest comic influences, also helps! Doing cover work for a comic series would definitely be a dream come true, so I hope I can continue improving as I go along.

You may notice a similarity in the layout to “First Date”, above. Growing up in small-town America, you get this sense of the essence of the place. “First Date” was actually based on the view you get from the front door of my old home, while “Betty” is the view from the garage and driveway. The place I grew up is far different from Riverdale, but I hope the spirit of the small-town life still comes through.
