Description Looking at this one, I have an irresistible urge to redo Amantha's sample card...

Well, here's another sample digital trading card, this time featuring my resident mystic, Paige! As you can see from the WIPs I posted previously, there has been a bit more refinement in the details, better hair, for one, and her fingers don't look too much like sausages anymore. I still need to find a happy medium where the fingers have a good amount of detail without them looking too wrinkled.

Her hair was my major development here. Since my tablet isn't so good with pressure sensitivity (not sure if that's a hardware or software issue), I had to make do with what I have. I got one of the brushes I used for the piece, and used the Shape Dynamics option in Photoshop to Fade the tip from thick to thin. I set up 3 brushes in this manner, one for long hair, medium, and short. I then switch from one to another depending on the length I needed.

looking really good,
i'd check the software for pressure sensitivity, my laptop sometimes loses the drivers for my tablet, and it forgets it can do variable pressures, so there maybe a sporadic conflict of software with the drivers (a friend of mine who did video editing at college, once had to install his graphic card drivers and sound cards in a particular order or they'd conflict, his pc had a combination of 7 so it took him ages to get it right. computers can really suck sometimes)
Awesome card though loved seeing it coming together

Funny thing is, the sensitivity works on the tablet's own test window, but on PSCS3, it's sometimes there and sometimes it's not. So that messes me up in a big way when my lines suddenly become wide as a log when I'm trying to go for a relatively thin stroke. I'm using the latest driver released by Genius, so I'm at a loss as to what to do in that regard.

But if there's one thing I can do pretty well, it's find a way around these things, so using brush settings to get the tapering I need is one way to do that!

strange things tablets, have you tried fiddling with the scratch memory on photoshop, it might give your computer a chance to work out what drivers it does have rather than expend time allocating and reorganising memory.maybe also try an earlier version of the driver, i had to do that for my wacom, as my laptop was rather dated and the newer drivers weren't recognised properly.
Still, your work looks awesome despite those niggles

I'll give that a try the next time I have the time to experiment with the settings, thanks!
