Shantae has got to be one of my favorite video game protagonists in recent years. She’s cute and perky, and bereft of the doom and gloom that has filled a number of games that have been released around the same time.

Then again, I have been playing Dark Souls III…

The game I got was Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero, and it was the nostalgic shot in the arm that I needed. It was fun, lighthearted, and full of cute and amusing moments, and the pseudo-metroidvania game design made it fun to replay stages and uncover secrets. Time and money well spent, and I’m considering playing the older games of the series when given the chance.

But in the meantime, shake them hips, Shantae!
