Description It's gotta be the most noticeable thing in X-Men #1. Not only is Jubilee back, but she has a baby!?

Well, she says it's not hers, he's an orphan she had rescued. Still though, I'm liking this more mature Jubilee, since the last time I read her, she was still the token kid character on the team. I was on and off comics during the whole vampire thing, so I missed out on that (but I did read up on it! )

So, to explain the joke, there have been a few X-Men stories where the plot features a baby. Hope Summers, in particular, was the last such infant the mutants fought over. Unless I'm wrong, Hope's adoptive father, Cable, would probably count as the first instance of the baby plot in X-history.

Kid's cute, though, ain't he?

I'm still trying to figure out why marvel thought that making Jubilee a vampire was a good idea or how they were going to use it in a big way. I'm afraid that in spite of her new found maturity which I love. Jubilee is still being treated the same way by marvel. They use her for a bit then dump her when they are done. She still has a long way to go to reach the status of a regular X-Man superhero. Maybe a new cartoon would help.

I think Jubilee being turned was done in order to show what a viable threat the X-Men were facing at the time. If I remember correctly, it wasn't long after M-Day, and Jubilee had already lost her powers by then. Her turning pushed her into the state of "innocence lost", which served as a starting point for further character development; she wasn't the plucky teenage sidekick of Wolverine anymore.

Her new role in X-Men is looking good to me, at least. She's in a pivotal role, the danger is focused on a child she took under her wing, so she's got a very personal stake in the current storyline.

I've only seen #1, so I can't say for certain whether or not her powers are back. She has her shades, so that hints she can do her Paf's, but Brian Wood mentioned in an interview that she may still have vampiric powers.

At least she can sit by the window of a train during daylight...

yeah; that's true but somehow a vampire being able to sit it anywhere near the sun just don't feel like a real vampire. Oh well it's for the best seeing how if she only could come out at night she would have a harder time being with the X-Men.

Cable was the first baby arc I can remember. When he was born everyone wanted him to, and it was an alternate Rachel Summers that took him to the future.

Unless you count Franklin Richards that is, but that kind of cross boundaries between X-men and the Fantastic Four.
